PH Covid cases up to 157,918

THE number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections in the country continues to climb, as the Department of Health recorded 157,918 as of Saturday.

Of the total, 83,109 are active cases of which 98.5 percent are mild or asymptomatic and 1.5 percent are severe or critical.

The 83,109 active cases include 4,351 new ones, 3,235 of them yielding positive results within three days of the swab tests while 1,116 others were part of the ongoing validation backlog.

The National Capital Region (NCR) continues to have the highest number of new cases at 2,460, followed by Laguna, Cavite, Cebu and Rizal.

The death toll is at 2,600, including 159 that were tagged initially as recovered patients.

The Central Visayas region had the highest number of new deaths with 71. The National Capital Region (NCR) is second with 61. Calabarzon, Bicol, Central Luzon, Zamboanga Peninsula, Ilocos, Soccsksargen and the Bangasmoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) added to the toll.

There are 72, 209 recoveries, including 885 new ones as of Saturday.

The DoH said its “Oplan Recovery” program where new survivors will be tagged every week will start this Sunday.
