The Entire DC Multiverse is About To Become a Living Nightmare

0

The Dark Multiverse just keeps getting darker in DC's Dark Nights: Death Metal event. Thanks to Perpetua and her second in command, the Batman Who Laughs, a new Dark Multiverse with 52 all-new dark Earths will be taking the place of the multiverse that was, leaving little hope to be found. This November an all new tie-in miniseries, The Multiverse Who Laughs will begin, showing DC fans all of its darkest corners, and the horrors to be found within.

Thus far in the main Dark Nights: Death Metal story, the Batman Who Laughs has evolved in a big way, getting an insanely big power upgrade, having put his brain inside the a lobotomized Batman from a reality where he gained the same powers as Watchmen's Doctor Manhattan. Now, with the powers of a god, the Batman Who Laughs has become the Darkest Knight, arguably becoming one of the most powerful beings in in the entirety of DC Comics's history. The Darkest Knight then creates his Dark Multiverse, with 52 subsequent Dark Earths created however he sees fit, drawing power from their collective darkness.

The Multiverse Who Laughs #1 will explore these new Earths, with each issue existing as a collection of short stories from around the Dark Multiverse from multiple writers and artists. Here's the cover art for the issue coming in November, as well as the solicitation from DC:

  • DARK NIGHTS: DEATH METAL - THE MULTIVERSE WHO LAUGHS #1
  • Release Date: November 24th, 2020
  • Written by: Amanda Conner, Patton Oswalt, Jimmy Palmiotti, Scott Snyder, Brandon Thomas, James Tynion IV, Joshua Williamson
  • Art by: Chad Hardin and Others
  • Cover Art by: Chris Burnham
  • The DC Multiverse is a collection of alternate-reality worlds where anything is possible. Each world tells the tale of a possible split in reality, or shows how lives vary depending on a single, solitary decision. But now that the Multiverse has been destroyed, the Batman Who Laughs has used his god like power to create a new Dark Multiverse…a collection of 52 evil worlds, each more terrifying than the last. This 48-page one-shot offers the curious—and the brave—a glimpse into the nightmare realities that the Batman Who Laughs has created in tales by creators who know what it means to have a truly twisted sense of misfit humor. An Arkham Asylum even more terrifying than what we know? A world of evil Super Pets? All that and more in these new tales of the Multiverse Who Laughs!

Unfortunately, the solicitation and artwork only tease two of the stories that will be in the issue, however they still sound pretty exciting. The first one teases a tale about an Arkham Asylum that's even worse than one fans are familiar with, which is pretty hard to imagine short of inmates being tortured or something equally terrible along those lines.

The second story, however, sounds as humorous as it does horrifying, teasing an Earth that's full of evil Super Pets. The cover art previews this specific story as well, featuring the Batman Who Laughs among famous DC pets such as Superman's super dog Krypto, Batman's dog Ace, the Bat-Cow, and more on the cover. However, all the animals have frightening eyes, are foaming at the mouth, and are covered in blood, indicating that the story won't go so well for those on that Earth who aren't a Super Pet. Regardless, Fans will get their chance to brave Death Metal's Dark Multiverse when The Multiverse Who Laughs #1 releases November 24th.
