RHOP: Everything to Know About Robyn's Ex-Husband Juan Dixon
The love story of Robyn and Juan Dixon has been one of the most engrossing parts of The Real Housewives of Potomac. When the series first started they were divorced but still living together in the same house, as they co-parented two sons. The sparks were still there and, unsurprisingly, the two slowly got back together over several seasons of the Bravo hit series. Now that they're set to remarry, the couple has come full circle. In addition to all the ups and downs in the Dixon marriage, Juan Dixon himself has been through quite a tumultuous time over the years.
Juan and Robyn first met in high school. At the time, Juan had already experienced a great deal of tragedy. His parents Juanita and Phil Dixon were drug addicts, who both died of AIDS-related illnesses when he was a teenager. After their deaths, he was raised by relatives, including his grandparents and his aunt, future Baltimore mayor Sheila Dixon. In 2016, Juan learned that Phil was not his biological father. Rather, blood tests proved his father was another man named Bruce Flanigan, who was still alive. After this discovery, he connected and formed a relationship with his biological father. Juan spoke about the emotional journey to the Baltimore Sun.
While dealing with the tragic loss of his parents, Juan played basketball for his high school team. His athletic talent propelled him into a career as a point guard and shooting guard. While attending the University of Maryland, he had an incredibly successful run playing for the Terrapins, also known as the Terps. In 2002, Juan led the team to their first, and so far only, NCAA championship. That year he won Most Outstanding Player, and was named a consensus All-American, among other impressive awards. He remains the top scorer in the Terps' history, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012. After graduating, he was a first round draft pick for the Washington Wizards. His pro career was steady, but not as successful as his college days. Juan played for the Wizards for 3 years, before going on to Portland, Toronto, Detroit, and then back to Washington for one season. Starting in 2009, he played for a few years in Europe. He ultimately retired in 2011, a year before he and Robyn divorced. A few years after retiring, Juan moved into coaching.
Juan is currently the head basketball coach at Coppin State University in Baltimore. He landed the coaching job in 2017, before season 3 of the Bravo series. Robyn called it a dream job for Juan on the show. After years of financial strife, it was the start of better days ahead for the Dixon family.
Season 5 has already shown Juan planning to propose, enlisting the help of Robyn's fellow "Green Eyed Bandit" Gizelle Bryant. In a season where some of the Potomac housewives are going through rough patches and facing rumors about their marriages, the Dixons are stronger than ever. Cheers to the happy couple!
