10 Shows To Watch If You Loved Netflix's Warrior Nun | ScreenRant
Netflix's Warrior Nun is a story about a young deceased orphan who wakes up alive and more than well: she now possesses superpowers and sees the world as her oyster. Unfortunately, the Order of the Cruciform Sword has others plans for her.
There are several reasons to love Warrior Nun: it features a strong young female lead character, it's packed with action and there are mysterious evil forces lurking around. A cherry on top is a little bit of romance and formations of friendships. Luckily, there are a lot of other TV shows that tick off at least a few points on that list and will ease the wait for the highly anticipated season 2.
10 Sex Education
Those who liked Ava's interactions with her peers and romantic drama with JC are definitely going to devour Sex Education within a few days. It's bingeable, light-hearted and funny, but it still manages to tackle some difficult coming-of-age issues, such as bullying, substance abuse and suffering from a heartbreak.
Even though Ava was hell-bent on running away with JC, she realized halfway through the season that she had bigger fish to fry. Those who didn't like that turn of events can find consolation in Sex Education.
9 Dark
Fans of complex storylines and Sci-Fi concepts should watch Dark. Unlike Warrior Nun, it demands a lot of attention to detail and can't be devoured all at once. Some episodes need re-watching, especially if you're the kind of a viewer who likes to play with the phone while the series is playing in the background.
The two shows have several things in common, the most notable ones being parallel universes and the question of life after death.
8 Crazyhead
A horror series that unfortunately only got one season in 2016, Crazyhead is a story about two demon-fighting girls who are about the same age as Ava from Warrior Nun. They are likeable, charming, and fierce. It's set in the UK, so humor is typically British. While many fans of Warrior Nun were disappointed with the screenplay, the writing is one of the strongest points of this overlooked TV show.
Warrior Nun managed to disappoint with its special effects, but worry not: Crazyhead did much better.
7 The Order
Fans of The Order Of Cruciform Sword squad will definitely get behind the secret society in The Order. This supernatural series also revolves around teenagers and fighting mysterious forces of evil. The order in question is called Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose.
They are not nuns, though: they are witches and wizards. Instead of dealing with beasts from hell, Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose fight werewolves who call themselves the Knights of Saint Christopher. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses.
6 I Am Not Okay With This
Another show featuring a teenager with telekinetic powers similar to Ava's is I Am Not Okay With This. The characters are also similarly angsty and they struggle to fit in. The main character is Sydney Novak, a girl whose father just died. She is also coming to terms with the fact that her crush is dating the high school jock and that she has superpowers.
Ava, too, was at first burdened by her powers. It's not always easy being the superhero.
5 Superstition
Superstition is a mystery drama that came out in 2017. Since it wasn't a big success, it was never renewed for season 2. On the surface, the Hastings family runs a funeral home and takes care of the cemetery. The whole town is mysterious and creepy. But they are also in charge of much more sinister and creepy matters. There are demons in their town and they seem to be in on it.
When a supernatural entity kills several people from their community, the family has to take action.
4 Watchmen
Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen shares more with Warrior Nun than it seems to at first sight. Both series deal with morality and power structures within the society.
Just like Warrior Nun takes certain realities of the Church and spins it to create a dramatic narrative, so do Watchmen take real historical events, only that they take place in a parallel universe. It's not just about vigilantes fighting the bad guys: politics also play a great part in the plot.
3 Misfits
Misfits is a TV show about five teenagers who each have their own unique superpower. Just like Ava, they come from marginalized groups. They have to decide what to do with them: keep on living the life they wanted, use the powers for selfish reasons or help make the world a better place?
It took Ava half a season to realize her powers are wasted on wanderlust and teenage love. These guys, however, don't see the world in black-and-white like Ava and the OCS does.
2 The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina
Sabrina Spellman from The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina is more confident and grounded than Ava, but she got in trouble anyway thanks to her arrogance. Both series rely heavily on its young female heroine and they both possess supernatural powers.
Despite being a half-witch, she finds time for love and romance. This series is therefore very similar to Warrior Nun: it's action-packed, it features a strong female lead and it's also rich with comedy and romance.
1 Supergirl
For those who want more than just a season or two of a new show, Supergirl is a great choice because it has 5 seasons. The best episodes have similar rankings as Warrior Nun's season 1 episodes. The two shows both belong to the same genre: a little bit of action and a whole lot of Sci-Fi.
Season six is said to premiere in 2021, so there is plenty of time to catch up on what has happened so far.
