Fortnite: How to Catch Fireflies in Weeping Woods (Week 10 Challenge)
Earlier in Season 3 of Fortnite, players were introduced to two new incendiary weapons, the Flare Gun and the Firefly Jar. Both can set an entire area on fire and burn buildings down if used properly. To make the Firefly Jar, players needed to find and collect Fireflies, usually in grassy or wooded areas once night fell during a match. During the final week of Season 3, players will once more need to seek out some of these glowing critters to create Firefly Jars.
One of the seven Week 10 Challenges asks players to find and collect 5 Fireflies at Weeping Woods, which only recently reappeared on the updated Season 3 map after a brief disappearance due to the flooding. Fireflies in Weeping Woods are concentrated in specific locations, and searching for them can take time. It can also be dangerous for players to stop a moment and collect Fireflies, as this leaves them vulnerable as easy targets for other players. Here's how to collect 5 Fireflies at Weeping Woods to finish this Week 10 Fortnite Challenge.
Players will first need to make their way to Weeping Woods to collect fireflies. They can either land directly at this named location from the Bus, or they can travel there. It is important that players stay alive at least until nightfall, as Fireflies only spawn at night. Players may also have to try a few times with different matches until they end up in a night match. The easiest way to complete this challenge will be in Team Rumble as usual, as it tends to be quieter and easier for a player to wait in a single location without being mobbed and eliminated by opponents.
There are several locations where Fireflies are most often found in Weeping Woods. They are mostly concentrated to the lower half of squares C5 and C6 and the upper half of squares D5 and D6. While players can find these critters anywhere in the woods, these locations tend to spawn the most. Players will notice fireflies by their glowing orange color just above the ground.
Players will need to approach the glowing orange creatures when they see one, often near tree trunks. When they get close enough, they'll want to press the button to interact with it. Within a few seconds, the Firefly will register as caught.
Each individual Firefly a player catches automatically becomes a Firefly Jar in the player's inventory for later use. Once the player catches 5, a popup will appear signaling the completion of the quest. Players will receive the typical 35,000 XP for its completion. Given this is the last week of Season 3, players will want to gather all the final free XP they can get.
Season 4 of Fortnite Chapter 2 is expected to begin on August 27. It has recently been announced that Marvel's Thor will arrive for Season 4, though it is not certain yet whether Season 4 will be entirely Marvel- or Thor-themed or if he arrives only for a special event.
Fortnite is available for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
