10 Fan Theories About Scream 5 That Just Might Be True
Fans of a film franchise often have mixed feelings about more movies being produced. While it's great to spend more time with beloved characters, sometimes there isn't a legitimate story that can be told. The Scream franchise is unique because with each new film, another layer gets added, and it seems like it truly could go on forever.
Fans have many ideas about what should happen in Scream 5 and there are some interesting fan theories that make a lot of sense. It might be a wait until audiences can obsess over the latest entry in this horror franchise, but until then, it's fun to imagine these theories taking place.
10 Sidney Is Now Ghostface
It's impossible to think about Scream without thinking about everyone who has been Ghostface. Every time a new Scream is announced, the biggest question on everyone's minds is "Who will Ghostface this time around?"
In Scream 5's case, fans have said that Sidney could become Ghostface. This is probably the biggest fan theory out there, as many people think that it would be powerful to see the one Final Girl who outfoxed every Ghostface to date become the killer who overshadowed a better part of her life.
9 Randy Didn't Die & He's Ghostface
Another fan theory is that Randy didn't die and he's become the serial killer. When Jamie Kennedy, the actor who played popular character Randy, tweeted the news about Scream 5, a fan responded to him and said, "Randy faked his death, and is the mastermind behind the killings."
Though this has yet to be confirmed or denied by the writers of Scream 5, this would definitely be a compelling storyline and it does seem logical. After all, who knows more about horror movies and their rules than Randy?
8 Kirby Reed Is Alive & She's Coming Back
Long-time Scream fans enjoyed Kirby Reed's character and think that it would be great if she was still alive for the new movie. Scream 4 ends with Kirby getting stabbed by Charlie -- the cinema club's president and one of two killers in the sequel -- but her death hasn't been specified or otherwise.
Played amazingly by Hayden Panettiere, Kirby is a relatively new Scream character who was still a lot of fun as she's got a bold and awesome personality. It makes sense that she's someone who audiences would be thrilled to see again.
7 Scream 5 Will Be A Truly Meta Movie
Another fan theory is that Scream 5 will go really meta. Thought Catalog asked "What if Scream 5 was about the original cast of Scream making the movie (or a sequel) in real life?" and we couldn't ask for more.
This would make sense, since this franchise is already known for making fun of itself and being very self-aware. This was most evident in Scream 4, which opened with a barrage of fake movie trailers for the Scream franchise's in-universe version, Stab, which also has a bevvy of progressively ludicrous sequels.
6 Dewey Is Actually A Bad Guy
At first, it's tough to imagine Dewey (David Arquette) as Ghostface because he's such a sweet, naïve, and innocent guy. But that might be exactly why this fan theory works.
Fans wonder if Dewey is the killer this time around, and he's using his accumulated goodwill and upstanding image as cover. The idea posists that Sidney loves him and thinks that he's there to protect her, when in fact he's manipulating her and hiding his true self.
5 Sidney Dies... But Not Really
Many fans have wondered if Sidney will make it to the end of Scream 5, and a Reddit fan theory suggests that Sidney dies at the beginning of the movie... only for her to turn up alive later on.
This is a good idea as it would be scary to watch the franchise's main character get abruptly killed while also keeping audiences on their toes. It would also be a good way to satisfy fans, as some think that Sidney needs a real ending this time around but conversely, others don't want to see her suffer.
4 Gale Becomes Ghostface To Help Her Career
Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) is a huge part of the Scream franchise as she's always around, desperate to be the face of whatever horrible situation is going on. That being said, she's not a very well-liked reporter.
This fan theory comes from Reddit and someone suggests it would be interesting if Gale was Ghostface in Scream 5. This theory thinks that she's not on TV anymore and she's having trouble making money from her books, so starting yet another massacre for her to cover would be a way for her to make money and a name for herself. Theoretically, she would murder Sidney and become famous all over again.
3 Everyone Is Killed In The Opening
Thought Catalog suggests that the major players from the Scream franchise could be killed in the opening of Scream 5.
This would definitely be a powerful way to open a sequel, as fans wouldn't be expecting it. Some new faces would then carry the rest of the movie and try to figure out who killed the beloved cast of Scream survivors.
2 Emma From The TV Show & Sidney Work Together
This fan theory comes from Reddit and involves the TV version of Scream, which has been polarizing for fans of the franchise. This fan thinks that Scream 5 is going to be a TV show/film "crossover" that will unite both the cinematic and televised worlds of Scream.
They think that Emma, the TV show's lead, should reach out to Sidney and they would bond over the fact that both of their partners tried to kill them. There's another serial killer in town, and so these two characters have to work together. This is an interesting theory as it does feel like there should be some connection between the MTV series and the film franchise which, for the most part, have stayed independent of each other.
1 Scream 5 Is A Sequel To The First Film
Another fan theory is that the new film could be a sequel to the first movie and it wouldn't have to follow anything that happened in the past three movies or series. A fan tweeted this theory and said, "Scream 5 should be a direct sequel to the first Scream and be a commentary on how every franchise just ignores sequels and resets these days."
This is a great idea and it seems like it could happen. After all, the 2018 Halloween soft reboot/sequel was about what happened right after the 1978 movie, and it worked well. So well in fact that it spawned a trilogy.
