Kevin Parker Presents the ‘Tame Impala Soundsystem’ for Tiny Desk (Home) Concert: Watch

Tame Impala stripped down the physical theatrics of its set, but the same can’t be said of its sonic quality for the Australian project’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert that premiered on Monday (Aug. 24).

Jay Watson and Dominic Simper tinkered with samplers and sequencers while the front-and-center multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker worked with his DJ mixer on a plain old school desk in his home studio in Australia, according to NPR’s Bobby Carter.

“This is Tame Impala Soundsystem,” Parker announced after their sizzling “Breathe Deeper” opener. On the heels of releasing the Four Tet remix of “Is It True,” the three psychedelic rockers masterfully recreated the very beats, effects and synths heard on the studio version in front of viewers’ eyes, unraveling the euphoria behind the process.

The only song Tame Impala performed that wasn’t from its Billboard 200 No. 3 album The Slow Rush was the 2019 single “Patience,” which closed out Parker and company’s 16-minute set.
