Is The Next Marvel Hero to Wield Mjolnir [SPOILER]? | Screen Rant

0

Throughout Thor's 60 plus years as a beloved Marvel hero, we have seen a growing number of people be able to wield the power of Mjolnir, and the list keeps growing. The basic and most common explanation for how Mjolnir works is that whoever is worthy shall wield the power of Thor Odinson. How worthiness is measured and by whom has always been a topic of debate. Is Odin the end all, be all decision-maker or does Thor get a say in who gets to wield it as well? Does self-worth come into play? Can other magic overpower Odin's enchantment? The questions are endless, but nonetheless, the ability to harness the power of Thor's hammer has always been fairly elusive in nature.

As time has gone on, as Thor's character has breached the silver screen, as Marvel comics continue to create ever-expanding arc's for him and his fellow heroes, the club of those who have wielded the hammer has slowly lost its level of exclusivity. It doesn't seem like Odin's enchantment on the hammer always has final say in who wields it anymore; for a variety of reasons both explained and otherwise. This seems to be especially apparent in recent years. Regardless, this doesn't mean it's any less impactful when a newbie gets their hands on the hilt of Mjolnir. So, who is the next worthy (or lucky?) son-of-a-gun? Well, Marvel may have just given us a clue.

The latest sneak peak of a cover (by Simone Di Meo) for the upcoming The Immortal She-Hulk variant shows a giant She-Hulk front and center holding onto what seems to be none other than Thor's hammer itself. It's a bit unclear whether she's attempting to lift it, smashing it into the ground, or genuinely wielding it, but regardless, she is the one holding it and Thor is nowhere to be seen. The implications of which seem to point to one thing: The She-Hulk may very well be the next on our list of hero's capable of wielding Mjolnir.

This reveal begs the question: who is really capable of harnessing the power of Thor, and what does it actually mean to be worthy? Between this and the cover of the upcoming Thor #7 with its impending Hammerfall arc, we may hopefully be in store for some answers. After all, when the cover of the next issue of Thor is an image compromised of what seems to be Groot, Ant-Man, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, and Iron Man all reaching for Mjolnir, we know something big must be coming.

Realizing so many heroes may soon have the ability to wield the power of the god of lightning, it seems that worthiness may no longer be as much of an obstacle in the near future. What this will mean for Thor, and for one of the most powerful weapons in the Marvel universe, is yet to be determined. One thing is for sure: it seems like a lot of hands are grabbing for the reins, and only time will tell who will be able to pick up Mjolnir next...and how.
