Harry Potter: 5 Wizarding World Careers Capricorn Would Excel In (5 They Would Fail At)
Capricorns are very serious and knowledgeable about nearly everything. Quite like Percy Weasley, they are responsible and independent in their lives. Capricorns shine in jobs that have to do with finance, management, and long hours that lead to a final product.
Capricorns are also the kind of people who hate just about everything at one point, so it's hard to be sure everything would stick, job-wise. They appreciate family and tradition, which might lead to family legacy careers. Therefore, here are five careers in the Harry Potter universe that Capricorns would succeed at, and five they wouldn't do so well with.
10 Excel: Researcher
Research can be a thankless job. It means spending long hours searching for information on something that might not end up being used in the final project.
However, it is something that many Capricorns are good at. They enjoy rules and reading, which are traits that lend themselves well to being an academic researcher.
9 Fail: Unspeakable
From canon, it's not entirely clear what Unspeakables do down in the Department of Mysteries, but Dumbledore does say that they study the most confusing, yet important aspects of the world: death, time, love, and other concepts like that.
The murky nature of those subjects might not lead a Capricorn to choose it as a career path.
8 Excel: Potioneer
Potions is a subject that requires both research and creativity. As a result, it's a long-term discipline that Capricorns very well might find fascinating, especially if they have an aptitude for the subject.
Potions allows brewers to expand on known concoctions, both in theory and in practice. This would be useful both for inventing potions and for writing papers.
7 Fail: Auror
Working as an Auror wouldn't be the right career for a Capricorn. Aurors must always be in the thick of the action, and there is little need for theory. Everything must be put into actual practice in the field, which makes Hogwarts exams and practical lessons vital.
Also, Aurors must also be able to improvise and change out plans at a moment's notice. Just in case something goes wrong, an Auror must be able to think on their feet in a situation requiring action.
6 Excel: Department of Magical Law Enforcement
However, any position requiring knowledge of rules and paperwork would be perfect for Capricorn. This allows them to know precisely what they're doing as it is occurring, and be able to research their task's subject extensively to get a feel for it.
Working in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement would also allow Capricorn to be promoted to different positions in the same Ministry office since it appears to be fairly large. This would help in keeping Capricorn interested in the work at hand.
5 Fail: Innkeeper
Working as an innkeeper (maybe The Three Broomsticks) would require extensive people skills, as well as the ability to constantly solve practical problems. Most Capricorns, who are more attuned to the theoretical, wouldn't do very well with this exceedingly hands-on job.
If the inn was a family business, it would work as a good starter job, but it's likely that a Capricorn would move on to another job that suits their personality better as soon as they wanted to.
4 Excel: Healer
On the other hand, Healers solve obscure problems that most other people couldn't fix, which is a trait that would appeal to Capricorns. Therefore, working as a Healer would be a perfect job for a Capricorn.
Though Healers might work in teams to help people, it's professional, medical work, that would similarly fit with Capricorns' interests.
3 Fail: Shopkeeper
Depending on what type of shop Capricorn might be running, this type of job could either go well or badly. Like working in an inn, running a shop requires constant customer interaction, as well as bargaining over purchases and returns.
On the other hand, if it was a product that was self-made or highly prized, it might work out for said Capricorn. Their intellectual nature does, however, make it fairly clear that their interests lie in academia or the Ministry.
2 Excel: Apothecary Owner
Apothecaries work hand-in-hand with Potions, and if that was a favored subject, it might be a fitting job for a Capricorn. Different ingredients need different preparations and maintenance, which would keep intellectual curiosity peaked.
The usual gaggle of customers would also be replaced by professionals and the occasional student, which would cut down on awkward small talk. It's also highly likely that apothecaries can complete their own ingredient gathering if wanted, which, again, might draw in Capricorn, who appreciate the precision involved.
1 Fail: Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office
Though canon doesn't explain the full functions of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office, it's pretty clear that it isn't a respected area, nor one staffed by someone who would want to advance in the Ministry. For example, one of its workers, Arthur Weasley, clearly has no desire to move anywhere else.
There's some debate over whether it's important to know what Muggle artifacts do before enchanting or disenchanting them, and if that is the case, Capricorns interested in the subject might be able to find a job they like here. On the other hand, it might be a dead-end office where their talents are wasted.
