S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite end at records as momentum shares surge
Stocks ended higher Wednesday, led by tech-oriented momentum shares, pushing the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite to another round of records. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose around 84 points, or 0.3%, to end near 28,332, according to preliminary figures, while the S&P 500 advanced around 35 ponts, or 1%, to finish near 3,479. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite gained around 199 points, or 1.7%, to close near 11,665. Shares of cloud-based customer-relationship-management company Salesforce.com Inc. led the rally, soaring 26% after reporting results late Tuesday that topped Wall Street forecasts. The company's shares had rallied Tuesday after S&P Dow Jones Indices announced it would be joining the Dow at the end of the month.
