Hilarious Justice League Snyder Cut Style Edit Of Mac & Me Trailer

0

A hilarious trailer for Mac and Me parodies the trailer for the Snyder Cut of Justice League by placing Leonard Cohen's rendition of "Hallelujah" over footage from the notoriously bad 1980s children's film. Mac and Me was a cheap and nasty knock-off of Steven Spielberg's children's classic E.T The Extra-Terrestrial, copying the basic elements of the movie's plot, but with none of the charm, emotion or humor. A recent Honest Trailer for E.T. even pointed out the fact, saying that while Spielberg's classic is almost perfect, Mac and Me is almost devoid of merit.

The Snyder Cut of Justice League, on the other hand, is, according to fans at least, is poised to be a classic, months ahead of its release as a four-part TV mini-series on HBO Max. Presenting director Zack Snyder's original vision for Justice League, the theatrical version of which was completed by Joss Whedon, who threw out many of Snyder's ideas before release, the movie has been ramping up marketing efforts in recent weeks. At this weekend's DC FanDome, Snyder released a full-length trailer for the Snyder Cut, which made the arguably odd choice of presenting some epic footage from the Snyder Cut with Cohen's version of "Hallelujah" playing over it.

Now, Collider has released a parody of the Snyder Cut trailer, replacing the footage from Justice League with footage from Mac And Me. The effect is unsettling, but also hilarious, presenting as it does the ridiculous footage from the bad 1980s film under the solemn and soulful strains of Cohen's classic track. The parody also points out the fact that McDonalds partly funded Mac And Me, by including a black and white version of the hamburger chain's logo alongside the WarnerMax logo used in the Snyder Cut trailer. You can watch the video below.

The post not only parodies Mac And Me, but also pokes a little bit of fun at Snyder himself, thanks to the caption. The reference to "a movie for grown-ups" is a dig at Snyder for his comments on Twitter over the weekend, referring to his version of Justice League as a movie for grown-ups as opposed to the Saturday morning cartoon feel of many sequences in the theatrical version.  Reaction to the parody trailer has been swift and negative, something Collider likely expected. Fans of the Snyder Cut are out in force, accusing the website of making fun of Justice League unfairly.

However, whatever your thoughts on the Snyder Cut, the trailer is admittedly hilarious. It does poke fun at Snyder, but in a gentle way, acknowledging the fact that his trailer for Justice League was a little overwrought and self-serious. But it also pokes fun at those who criticized the trailer for its lack of dialogue, by proving that just slapping "Hallelujah" over any old footage doesn't make something epic. The footage itself needs to be epic in order to fit with the track.
