How to track Hurricane Laura as it causes devastation across the US

Hurricane Laura, the worst hurricane to hit the US this year, has made landfall along the Louisiana/Texas border.

Half a million people living on the Texas and Louisiana coastlines were urged to evacuate on Wednesday before the storm brought an ‘unsurvivable storm surge’ to the area.

With the storm having hit land at approximately 7am UK time, here’s what you need to know about how you can track its distructive path.

How to track Hurricane Laura

If you want to track the path of Hurricane Laura, Google Maps has a function which allows you to see where the storm is and where it’s heading.

All you need to do is search for ‘Hurricane Laura’ and scroll until you see the map widget, which you can click on if you want to expand it.

The information on the map is sourced from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The storm raged towards Texas and Louisiana with maximum sustained wind speeds of 150mph, and if those speeds are maintained Laura will be one of the strongest storms to ever hit the country’s south coast.

Meteorologists have called the hurricane ‘extremely dangerous’, with 20 million people set to feel its impact.

The US Weather Service predicted the area between the Bayou and Rockefeller in Louisiana would see the biggest waves.

Their warning tweet added: ‘If you need to evacuate, do so NOW. Surge will begin today, well ahead of the strongest winds.’
