Season 4 of Fortnite Chapter 2 has begun and it features a Battle Pass filled with a wide array of Marvel's superheroes and villains. While Fortnite has had various Marvel crossovers in the past, this is the first time in 14 seasons that Fortnite has allowed a franchise to take over an entire season.
In previous seasons, Fortnite has seen the inclusion of various pop-culture icons from Marvel's mightiest heroes, to DC villains, to ordinary streamers and celebrities. These include Star-Lord, Batman, Captain America, and most recently Black Manta. Some heroes (Deadpool and Aquaman) have even been mascots for seasons and have had a parallel storyline that plays out over the course of several weeks. However, their elongated appearances in the game do not compare to the absolute superhero takeover of Fortnite Season 4.
Players who purchase Fortnite's Season 4 Battle Pass will have the opportunity to unlock eight different Marvel heroes and villains: Thor, She-Hulk, Groot, Storm, Mystique, Dr. Doom, Iron Man, and Wolverine. In addition to the hero skins, each Marvel character has an additional set of challenges that reward the player with different costume variants. As well, there is a pickaxe, glider, and back bling for each hero that can be obtained by leveling up the Battle Pass.
Some of the hero skins also give the player unique abilities such as Mystique's ability to steal the identity of the player she eliminates. Groot can summon Rocket Raccoon to accompany him in battle, but the angry fur ball is more for show than he is firepower. Wolverine replaces his pickaxe with adamantium claws. And some of the heroes have an exclusive glider that only works while wearing their skin which gives them a unique gliding animation as if they were using their powers to fly.
If Fortnite continues with its recent trend, there is no doubt that more heroes will be added throughout the season. Data miners are already trying to crack encrypted files, and have already uncovered a potential Silver Surfer skin bundle. The Joker and Poison Ivy will be added to Fortnite in a few months. And an X-Men related character is bound to be released the week Wolverine's challenges wrap up. But for now, players have a lot of work to do to reach all 100 tiers of Fortnite's Marvel Battle Pass.
