Samsung To Properly Unpack Galaxy Z Fold 2 On September 1

0

Samsung has confirmed it will be hosting an event for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 on September 1. The event is listed as “Unpacked Part 2,” coming after the event Samsung hosted earlier this month, which not only teased the Galaxy Z Fold 2, but also launched the Galaxy Note 20 series. Although details for the event are currently light on details, the event might be live-streamed once again.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the successor to the Galaxy Fold, released in the fall of last year. It will be the latest addition to the Galaxy Z line, which already includes the Galaxy Z Flip 5G and the original Galaxy Fold. Although some details, like price, are still unclear, Samsung already confirmed a few details, including the screen size, and what colors the phone will be available in -- Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze.

Samsung posted an invitation to the event, revealing the date and time, as well as what the event will be about. With minimal details, Samsung asked people join in on September 1 at 10 a.m. EST. Although it didn’t reveal much, the company did make it clear that this event will center around the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and that it will “explore the groundbreaking features” of the new phone. On its website, Samsung is already offering the opportunity for people to reserve the phone, which is similar to a pre-order, but not quite the same or as committal.

Although Samsung has yet to reveal the price tag for the Galaxy Z Fold 2, it’s likely that information will be confirmed during the event. Its predecessor certainly doesn’t come cheap with the Galaxy Z Fold currently available on Samsung’s website for $1,980. The other two phones in the Galaxy Z line are slightly more modestly priced, with the Galaxy Z Flip starting at $1,299 and $1,449 for the Z Flip 5G. As a result, it should also be expected that this new phone will be an expensive option, compared to smartphone prices in general. Which raises the question as to whether the 'groundbreaking features' will be enough to make the Galaxy Z Fold 2 a realistic purchase to consumers?

Another question is just how much the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has improved over the first Z Fold model. Although the Galaxy Z Flip was received in a more positive light, the Galaxy Z Fold had a few issues. It was easy for dirt to get in and damage the phone, due to the design of the hinge. When the new model was first teased, Samsung explained it listened to feedback when making changes, including upping the screen size from 4.2 inches to 6.7 inches, and making the design smoother in general. If the price isn’t too damaging to the wallet, and if the improvements are significant enough, maybe Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be able to succeed where its predecessor failed.
