New Girl: 5 Of Nick’s Most Important Former Girlfriends (& 5 Of Schmidt’s)

0

While fans all knew that New Girl's Nick and Schmidt would end up with Jess and Cece, it was a pretty stressful journey before they arrived at the final destination for both couples. The old "will they, won't they" tease went on for years, to the point where it was near enough impossible to relax without knowing for sure that they were going to end up together. Still, along the way, fans did wind up meeting some interesting other partners, all of whom played an important role in the character development of the two favorite best friends.

Some were more prolific than others, but when looking all the way back to season 1, these 10 former girlfriends represent the steady and continued progression of Nick and Schmidt prior to them eventually living happily ever after with Jess and Cece.

10 Nick - Caroline

The audience was introduced to Caroline in the very first season, and while she may have only made sporadic appearances from this point on, she was a vital piece of the New Girl puzzle.

She shaped the way Nick handled relationships and break-ups, and definitely not in a good way. She served a purpose, for sure, but as time went on, it felt like diehard fans of the show grew more and more resentful of her.

9 Schmidt - Elizabeth

Ah, the old school sweetheart. When Schmidt was in college, Elizabeth was the girl he was well and truly in love with. Then, eventually, after he turned into ‘New Schmidt,’ Elizabeth pops up once again and is at the heart of the love triangle created by Cece’s failed wedding.

Things don’t exactly end well for her, but at least she was able to go out with her head held high after letting Schmidt know how she felt about him cheating.

8 Nick - Julia

Anyone who messes with Jessica Day is always going to feel the wrath of the New Girl fanbase, and that was definitely the case when Julia first became part of the cast.

Weirdly enough, it seemed as if most fans were ready to forgive her after this incident, and yet in the blink of an eye, she decided to break up with Nick. It felt far too sudden and it cut the knees off of a relationship that had some real potential.

7 Schmidt - Emma

In addition to being drop-dead gorgeous, Emma was also absolutely terrifying, like most of the women who worked with Schmidt.

The fling she had with him wasn’t much of an official relationship, but it was definitely fun to see how things unfolded between the two of them. Emma showed Schmidt that he wanted something more than just sex. He wanted love, and he was finally ready to go after it.

6 Nick - Angie

The insane Angie was in and out of Nick’s life before the audience even had time to get to know her, but at the very least, everyone liked seeing how she brought the chaotic side of Mr. Miller out to play.

Sure, she probably shouldn’t have made a move on Sam before ditching Nick completely out of the blue, but maybe they just weren’t meant to be. If we were Nick, though, we’d probably still be a bit annoyed.

5 Schmidt - Abby

Abby was a car crash waiting to happen, and yet while this may not sound like anyone’s idea of entertainment, she did stir the pot nicely in her role as Jess’ sister.

It seemed like Schmidt was always going to be naturally attracted to her, even if they are complete opposites. Things didn’t work out between them, but financially speaking, she did help him move back into the loft. That probably wasn’t her intention, but still.

4 Nick - Kai

Kai was the kind of character that just seemed to be full of surprises, from introducing herself as Tran’s granddaughter to being insanely rich (and very lazy).

Nick can be a bit of a slob himself, but even he had his limits. He knew that he wanted to do more with his life than sit around all day watching television, and one could argue this was the inspiration behind him finally taking his writing career seriously.

3 Schmidt - Fawn

Fawn represented everything that many people hate about politicians, and yet, she was still an essential part of Schmidt’s journey back to Cece.

During his ‘association’ with Fawn, Schmidt began attracting the attention of Cece once again in a big way. It was the final obstacle they had to overcome before they could finally be together, and when one looks back on it, this makes it all the more intriguing. Oh, and she had a great voice.

2 Nick - Reagan

Something about the Reagan and Nick relationship just didn’t sit well with fans, but as was the case with Fawn, it was a necessary evil needed to arrive back at the conclusion everyone wanted: Nick and Jess getting back together.

She offered more to the show when she was single and living with the guys because when she and Nick officially became a couple, she only popped up every now and then, which was a shame.

1 Schmidt - Kim

Kim and Schmidt were hardly boyfriend and girlfriend, but they did have a few moments of real passion together. Plus, she played a massive role in furthering (and sometimes holding back) Schmidt’s career.

Kim may not have come across as someone that was going to hold any real significance in how things went for him, but maybe, just maybe, he would’ve gone down a different path if it wasn’t for her.
