Amber Heard blasts Johnny Depp for trying to delay £37m court battle over filming clash

JOHNNY Depp should put his next film on hold rather than delay his £37million libel battle, ex-wife Amber Heard has declared.

The actor is suing Ms Heard in the US for claiming he beat her.

But Depp, 57, has asked a judge to reschedule the trial because it clashes with filming in London of his forthcoming movie Fantastic Beasts 3.

In papers filed on Saturday, Ms Heard, 34, accused Depp of making “no effort whatsoever” to honour court dates and treating the judge as “subservient”.

She pointed out she was due to film Aquaman 2 next February, which would also clash with the case if the judge accepted Depp’s request — leading to a “slippery slope”.

The papers, submitted by Ms Heard’s lawyers, claim Depp and his lawyer Adam Waldman have conducted “a daily campaign to destroy her reputation and career through social media, the internet and the press”.

Depp is suing Ms Heard for libel in Virginia. In papers filed there last week, he asked the judge to delay the case over an “irreconcilable conflict”.

He said that after Covid-19 disruption, Warner Bros had now set a shooting schedule which conflicted with the trial date.

Ms Heard opposed his request. Her lawyers wrote: “Although Mr Depp had been contacted in late June or July with the proposed filming dates, he did not alert them to the trial dates.

“Mr Depp decided that, rather than speak with his employer to work his film commitments around his trial, he asks this court to subserviently reschedule around his employment and the entire film schedule and production.”

But Amber said she was due to film Aquaman 2 next February, which would also clash with the case if the judge accepted Depp’s request

The papers confirm for the first time that Ms Heard is still making Aquaman 2.

During the pair’s recent domestic violence face-off at London’s High Court, a judge heard Depp texted his assistant saying: “I want her replaced on that WB (Warner Bros) film.”

Depp did not deny the claim, saying: “I was feeling quite bitter. I said I wanted her replaced on the Aquaman sequel.

“I had been characterised globally as a ‘wife beater’. I went from Cinderella to Quasimodo in 0.6 seconds and I was without a voice at that point.”

Depp vehemently denies any domestic abuse.
