Map: El Dorado Fire evacuations, perimeter near Yucaipa

Some of the same communities that were forced to evacuate last month for the Apple Fire have been ordered out again for the El Dorado Fire, burning above Yucaipa.

The El Dorado Fire started Saturday morning in the area of El Dorado Ranch Park, just east of Yucaipa city limits. It is listed as “human-caused, under investigation.”

Within 24 hours, it had burned more than 3,000 acres. “Due to very dry vegetation, very steep terrain and very hot weather, the fire has been extremely active,” Sunday’s report from the San Bernardino National Forest said.

Evacuations were ordered for Forest Falls, Mountain Home Village, Oak Glen and, on Sunday morning, the Yucaipa Bench area of the city, north of Carter Street.

The national forest has also closed many picnic areas, trails and trailheads in the area, including all of the San Gorgonio Wilderness.

The Apple Fire started July 31 near Cherry Valley. The suspected cause is a vehicle emitting burning carbon from its exhaust pipe. It burned about 33,000 acres (51 square miles) and is close to full containment.
