Stephen Amell Endorses The Batman’s Arrow-Style Smokey Eyes

0

Stephen Amell endorses The Batman's Arrow-style smokey eyes, joking they're the key to launching a lengthy DC franchise. Last month, Matt Reeves' debuted fans' first look at the highly-anticipated Warner Bros. project. While fans had their own respective takeaways from the footage — most of them revolving around the Riddler's (Paul Dano) riddle, Amell got something entirely different from the clip.

The Batman will introduce fans to Robert Pattinson's version of the Caped Crusader, who is in his second year of being a night vigilante in the film. According to Reeves, the main premise of the movie will somehow end up being connected to the Waynes, effectively involving Bruce Wayne into it personally. Warner Bros. assembled a star-studded cast including Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin, who was unrecognizable in the trailer.

Among the many things that Amell took away from The Batman footage, he zeroed in Pattinson's heavy eye make-up and how it looked similar to what he sported when he played Oliver Queen in Arrow. Because of this, the actor predicted that just like how his The CW series kicked-off the Arrowverse, the upcoming Reeves film will also be a great springboard for a new DC franchise. Read his full tweet below:

Amell is obviously joking, with his comment made based purely on his experience with Arrow and how it launched the Arrowverse which continues to thrive even after the inaugural series already ended. That said, it's not difficult to imagine The Batman kickstarting its own franchise. As confirmed at last month's DC FanDome, the film will be set in an entirely different universe from the DCEU and Todd Phillips' Joker. This means that Reeves has total creative freedom with what he wants to do in the film. In fact, world-building has already begun with the upcoming Gotham PD show on HBO Max which will focus on Jim Gordon during Year 1 of the Caped Crusader's emergence in the Gotham. It'll focus on the corrupt official at the GCPD and Gordon's attempt to break the mold. Aside from getting a prequel TV series,  is also expected to at least be a full trilogy with the movies following Pattinson's Bruce Wayne over the next several years.

Unfortunately, fans could wait a little while longer to find out if The Batman has what it takes to kick-off its own interconnected franchise. As previously reported, Pattinson has been diagnosed with coronavirus, forcing the production to be halted once again. Warner Bros. said that they're investigating what really happened on the set, but is already implementing strict health protocols for the safety of everyone working on the project. It's unknown when shooting will resume as it will be highly dependent on Pattinson's condition.
