The man who raised me as his own died & I now want to find my biological dad

0

DEAR DEIDRE:  DAD met my mum when I was nine months old and raised me as his own.

He was a great dad and I had a wonderful life with him but it was cut short when he died suddenly three months ago. I’d now like to find my biological father and see if I have any siblings.

Mum gave me his name and what details she has but they weren’t together when I was born and both moved on. Where do I start? I’m 23.

DEIDRE SAYS: You are in the early stages of grieving for your dad. Finding a family whose blood you share but who are actually strangers won’t plug that emotional gap. Find understanding support from the Good Grief Trust (thegoodgrieftrust.org).

See my Tracing Someone e-leaflet for ways to go about your search. Do keep an open mind. Your biological father and any siblings might greet you with open arms but some react disappointingly.
