POSTPONED – Classic Tour 2020
We are sure many of you may have been anticipating this announcement, but none the less it is sent with a heavy heart.
The Valleys and Villages organising committee have , over the recent weeks ,been looking at how we could run the event.
Considerations have been around:
- The availability of a waiver of permit from MS UK?
- The availability of start/finish/cake /lunch halts? …Rugby Club? Hungerford Croft? Royal Oak PH?
- The availability of toilets?
- How much of a social event it would be if we all have to be keep separate?
- How can we , practically, organise an electronic signing on?
- How many of the participants are older or may be in at-risk categories?
- If local hotels are open for those who have travelled?
- The possibility that some premises may be open from 4th July but not a certainty? We may not know until late June.
- How many participants would be willing to attend anyway , regardless ?
- How we would deal with equipment and marshals?
- Is it technically against Gov guidance to drive around “recceing” the route? Answer , probably yes.
- How much expense can we commit the club too before it is clear “Lockdown” measures will be insufficiently lifted for us to run?
The issue ,on 19th May, of the Motor Sport UK Guidance made it clear we could not run the event this year.
No waiver of permit would be issued by MSUK for any event where two people share a car, even though we know many of you sharing a car are from one household, it makes no difference to the official rules. This meaning the event would be without the protection of third party insurance.
Our intention now is to run the DDMC Valleys and Villages classic tour on Sunday 1st August 2021 – in keeping with many organisations this seems the easiest thing to do.
Our own next year’s diary is already becoming quite full!
If you are prepared to ,we can roll your entry over to next year and there will be no cost increase to you. This will save on much admin for all of us.
If you would like a refund this can, of course, be arranged.
Please let us know either way so we can keep our records straight.
We do have some cheques which have arrived more recently and not been presented so will contact those entrants and shred the cheques.
Thank you for your ongoing support and we hope to see you next year.
