Doubling Down with the Derricos: Quintuplets Turn 7 | Screen Rant
Its celebration time in the Doubling Down with the Derricos household, as Karen and Deon’s miracle babies (aka the quintuplets) have turned seven. Deniko, Dariz, Deonee, Daician, and Daiten, who first brought fame to the Doubling Down with the Derricos family, have grown up to be sweet kids.
Las Vegas, Nevada-based couple Karen and Deon did wish for multiple babies, but never in their wildest dreams would they have expected to get 14 Derricos in return. 40-year-old stay-at-home mother Karen Derrico met 49-year-old real estate investor Deon on a dance floor in Detroit in 2002. By 2005, the Doubling Down with the Derricos couple was ready to start a family. Karen’s miracle motherhood story wasn’t an easy one. Issues with the TLC star’s cervix made her miscarry twice before having her eldest daughter Darian in 2006. A progesterone treatment, weeks upon weeks of bed rest, and a cervical cerclage procedure helped Karen Derrico give birth to baby boy Derrick five whole years later. A year later, the Derricos became parents to twins Dallas and Denver, but life had bundles of surprises in store for Karen and Deon. In 2013, the stork visited the Doubling Down with the Derricos home and took the count of children from 4 to 9, overnight!
It’s been seven years since baby girls Deniko, Dariz, Deonee, and boys Daician, and Daiten were born at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona. Karen and Deon didn’t expect to have five children, as doctors had initially told them that there were only four! The Doubling Down with the Derricos mom revealed that the fifth quint was actually hiding behind her breastbone, and doctors realized this when she was at 22 weeks of pregnancy. Daily Mail stated that the chances of Karen carrying quintuplets were one in a couple of million, which makes the babies truly miraculous. Karen, who was unaware of the babies' genders until after their birth, was moved to suburban Phoenix to receive care from a perinatologist and multiple-birth specialist named Dr. John Elliott. The reality TV mom carried the quintuplets for a whole 32 weeks and delivered them between 11:17 a.m. and 11:21 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013.
Doubling Down with the Derricos fans were in for a surprise when Karen Derrico posted on Instagram about the quintuplets’ birthday and even shared some lesser-known facts about the kids. “People ask about miracles and wishing they could see one... well, here’s 5!! 5 naturally conceived babies that beat the odds of 132,000,000!” wrote the elated mother of 14 little Derricos. “To anyone out there that doesn’t believe in miracles, please BELIEVE IT!! IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU!!” mentioned Karen, before calling the quints, “Smart, funny, energetic, empathetic, loyal, loving, VIRGOS!!!”
The last episode of Doubling Down with the Derricos saw Karen and Deon celebrate Deniko, Dariz, Deonee, Daician, and Daiten’s sixth birthday at a bowling alley. It was an emotional moment for TLC fans, as the parents did this while their newest triplet 'Awesome Dawsyn' was ready to undergo heart surgery in the hospital. Karen and Deon’s balancing act is delightful and parents (especially those who think their kids are a handful) can definitely borrow a page from the Derricos' book. Here’s wishing the Doubling Down with the Derricos’ quints a very happy birthday, times five!
Doubling Down With the Derricos airs Tuesdays at 10pm EST on TLC.
