Guardians of the Galaxy 3: Elizabeth Debicki Wants MCU Villain Return

0

Elizabeth Debicki hopes to return as Ayesha in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The end of James Gunn's cosmic Marvel Cinematic Universe trilogy was originally expected to be in theaters this year, but that was before he was fired and then rehired by Disney. His momentary exit from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 saw Gunn join DC to do The Suicide Squad as his next feature, which has delayed plans for the third Guardians by several years.

When production does eventually begin on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the main cast will all be back to help bring an end to the current iteration of the Guardians. Over the years, Gunn has teased several other characters who might be included in the upcoming film. Adam Warlock is expected to appear after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's post-credits scene introduced the character, but Gunn has repeatedly said his appearance isn't confirmed. The MCU debut of Warlock was set up after the sequel's villain Ayesha helped create him, and the actress behind the golden villain wants to return.

Debicki is one of the stars of Christopher Nolan's Tenet and is currently making the rounds to promote the highly anticipated blockbuster. When speaking to Comicbook, though, the outlet asked what future the Golden High Priestess of the Sovereign has in the MCU and with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Unsurprisingly, Debicki is interested in reprising her MCU role in a future project.

I want to, I want to. I love [Ayesha]. I actually really, really loved playing her, and I loved making that movie and working with everybody and James, and it was... it was a really fun job for me. So I hope so. I, sometimes I just think about her golden throne and her golden dress, just waiting somewhere in the wings. I would love, even if I just sort of scooch on for a second. I mean, I would love to come back.

Even as one of the main villains of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, there is still a lot of room for the MCU to continue exploring Ayesha's story. The good news for fans, the character, and Debicki is that it does appear that she has a place in the grand scheme of the MCU. Back in 2017, Gunn said that he plans to bring Debicki's Ayesha back for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He hasn't provided any further details about what her role will be in the film, but the early indications for it pointed to Ayesha being included.

As long as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 isn't overhauled by Gunn, Debicki's hope to return as Ayesha should come to fruition, but what role will she play? The set up is already there for her to be connected to Adam Warlock's story in the third film. If the comics are any indication, Adam does not always react positively to his creators, so Ayesha will need to fare better than some. Perhaps she could even have a bit of a heroic turn as the character has done in the comics and take on the identity known as Kismet. In any case, there are plenty of directions to take Ayesha's story once she returns in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
