NJ Crush FC Director of Player Development and coach, Steven Rozycki, is the newest Sky Blue TeamSnap MVC. He currently coaches the 2009 Splash and 2009 Typhoon teams. While all MVCs have faced the unprecedented challenges stemming from COVID-19, Rozycki had to navigate this after contracting the virus.
Sky Blue’s TeamSnap MVC honors coaches in our communities that exemplify an undeniable commitment to player growth and education. We aim to shine a light on coaches going above and beyond for their team while navigating the COVID-19 impacts.
Rozycki has since recovered from COVID-19 and recently underwent shoulder surgery as his teams were beginning their pre-season camps and kick-off tournaments. “It was frustrating to me that I couldn’t drive and had to try creating a club curriculum with only one hand,” said Rozycki. “If I did not have a great support system, including my family, friends, and great teams who were understanding, I would not have been able to coach after the surgery.” Giving credit to the other coaches at the club, Rozycki noted they provided the most significant support. He believes that his club is so successful due to the family environment supported by all the coaches.
“What stood out to me about Steven’s TeamSnap MVC nomination, was the great care he has for his teams,” said Sky Blue Account Executive Taylor Machuga. “We receive so many qualified submissions for this program, but the level of care Steven exhibits is what separated his nomination from many other qualified nominees. Steven had shoulder surgery and was out coaching just days later in an already tumultuous 2020. He is more than deserving of this nomination.”
Outside of soccer, Rozycki teaches special needs students with emotional behavior disabilities, something he will have to do virtually now due to the pandemic. “Seeing the development of my players and students is what drives me,” said Rozycki. “In my eyes, the students and players should always come first.”
Youth soccer, including Sky Blue FC youth partner EDP, has since begun its return to play with COVID-19 safety measurements in place. Rozycki’s teams compete in the EDP leagues and recently played in its Kick Off Tournament to begin their season.
Nominations for TeamSnap are still open and can be submitted here.
