Baumgartner: "This is what I dreamt of"
Friday was a night to remember for Christoph Baumgartner, as the midfielder won his first cap for Austria at senior level. The TSG star, named in the starting line-up, received much praise for his performance in a 2-1 win away to Norway. "In his 90 minutes on the pitch, Baumgartner demonstrated what we've already seen him do in Hoffenheim. He is a valuable addition to our team, he's fast and he's good at working his way out of tight spaces," said national team coach Franco Foda. Baumgartner, for his part, was overjoyed by the experience: "This is what I always dreamt about when I was a little boy. It was a really amazing feeling." TSG teammate and compatriot Stefan Posch also played the full 90 minutes, while Florian Grillitsch was an unused substitute.
Oliver Baumann is still waiting to win his first cap for his country: the TSG goalkeeper watched on from the bench as Germany drew 1-1 away to Switzerland. Baumann enjoyed the trip with the national team despite the lack of playing time.
Numerous TSG players were involved in international fixtures elsewhere. Konstantinos Stafylidis was in the starting XI for Greece as they picked up a 2-1 win away to Kosovo. However, the defender was forced to leave the field of play shortly before half-time due to a dislocated shoulder. Mijat Gaćinović (Serbia) came on in the 27th minute of his country's 0-0 draw against Turkey.
Munas Dabbur provided the assist for Israel's equalising goal in their 1-1 draw away to Scotland. Ilay Elmkies was an unused substitute. The Denmark national team called on TSG stars Robert Skov and Jacob Bruun Larsen for their Nations League match at home to Belgium - but even the Hoffenheim duo couldn't prevent a 2-0 loss.
Various TSG players are back in international action this week. On Monday, the Austria national team - featuring Stefan Posch, Christoph Baumgartner and Florian Grillitsch - host Romania. Ilay Elmkies and Munas Dabbur's Israel face Slovakia, while Ermin Bičakčić's Bosnia & Herzegovina host Poland (20:45 CET). On Tuesday, Robert Skov and Jacob Bruun Larsen are in action for Denmark against England (20:45 CET), Andrej Kramarić and Croatia will go head-to-head with France in a rematch of the 2018 World Cup final (20:45 CET), while Dennis Geiger and the Germany U21s are up against their Belgian counterparts (17:00 CET).
