This Is The Blue Google Pixel 4a That You Can't Buy | Screen Rant
The Google Pixel 4a comes in only one color, but that initially wasn't the plan. Images of an alternate color variant have now surfaced online and they just might make interested buyers feel a little blue. Google's latest budget smartphone arrived with a lot of improvements in the display and camera departments, but color choice was lacking.
Aside from a few alterations to its design, the Pixel 4a and its lone color option doesn't really try to standout from Google's previous models, in terms of aesthetics. Its predecessor, the Pixel 3a, was available to buy in three colors, including Really White and Purple-ish. However, the latest iteration only comes in Google's signature “Just Black” colorway. Unlike the Google Store's accidental unveiling of the pixel 4a earlier than intended, Google had nothing -- directly -- to do with the unreleased variant image leaking this time around.
A canceled blue Pixel 4a variant was accidentally discovered by 9to5 Google after tinkering with the Google Store's hidden assets, leading to a 3D image of the Pixel 4a in the strikingly different blue hue. While there's no official variant name for the recently unearthed color, the light blue does look closer to the Pixel 2's “Kinda Blue” or the Pixel 3a's “Purple-ish” color variants, instead of the darker “Really Blue” colorway from previous Pixel models. Unfortunately, with the Google Store page continuing to only list Just Black, it's unlikely that consumers will be able to get their hands on this elusive color anytime soon.
The Pixel 4a has a lot to offer, considering its budget price, and it's quite evident that Google has prioritized its performance over a new design or crazy aesthetics. While this version of Google's latest budget smartphone might not be currently available to consumers, that doesn't mean the blue option should automatically be ruled out in the near future. The fact that the images exist in the first place, indicates that Google had considered the color, and still might have some plans for it.
If it doesn't ever arrive, then it could be simply the case that the Pixel 4a's impressive specs at a lower price point, didn't provide enough room for the company to make additional colorways viable, or much of a priority. Then again, perhaps Google's plans have simply changed, as the company is currently preparing to launch at least two more Pixel phones in 2020, one of which will be a 5G version of the Pixel 4a, and who knows, maybe in blue.
