James Bond: 10 Things You Missed In The No Time To Die Trailer

0

After years of development and months of being delayed for practical health reasons, No Time To Die is finally pushing its release this 20th of November 2020. Expectations are high for what is to be Daniel Craig’s final outing as James Bond. Thus, director Cary Fukunaga and his crew have a lot to pack in for the 25th Bond installment.

And after the latest trailer just dropped, there are tons to anticipate and speculate for the future of Bond. But more importantly, there are character revelations coming left and right that viewers may not have noticed.

10 The Maserati that Ran Over Bond

At the start, the tense scene of James Bond swinging from a wire on the first trailer is shown. But the other tidbit that was included is the car nearly running over Bond before he shielded himself behind a stone barrier in an instant.

What may seem to be an ordinary car is actually a Maserati Quattroporte IV, which resembles the Maserati Biturbo that was owned by Franz Sanchez, the main villain of Licence to Kill. That could be a subtle nod to the last Bond film that featured Timothy Dalton.

9 James Bond Visiting MI6

At the end of Spectre, Bond leaves with Dr. Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux) after M (Ralph Fiennes) apprehends Blofeld (Christoph Waltz). It is presumed he left MI6 for good. That is until his friend CIA field officer Felix Leiter brought him back to duty to search for a missing scientist.

When Bond is called back to the agency, it is shown that he carried a visitor’s ID card in M’s office. This provides an answer to the question from the previous trailer about security suspecting about finding Bond’s identification in their database.

8 Safin’s Men

One of the newest features of the new trailer are showcasing the sources of threat by the villain Safin (Rami Malek). Some of them traverse a glass building (which resembles the glass portions of the SIS building or MI6’s headquarters) and possibly breach their systems before they send a torpedo-shaped bomb to the lower levels.

If that is actually the MI6 headquarters, then this is the second time that MI6 was intruded by an enemy since Skyfall. This time around, the villain’s men showed more menace to the vulnerable agency.

7 Paloma’s Full Reveal

Daniel Craig’s Knives Out co-star Ana de Armas will play CIA counterpart Paloma, whom Leiter may have referred to for his mission. On the latest trailer, she gave out the most dazzling impression by having her wield a gun and take down several goons. Paloma even had a drink with Bond after that encounter earlier.

Ana described Paloma as “irresponsible” and “bubbly”, but still a key accomplice to Bond (despite reports of limited screentime). Nevertheless, she found her gritty and femme fatale side too.

6 Bond Visiting a Tomb

Also revealed in the trailer is Bond visiting a cemetery and stopping at a mausoleum. There, he burnt a note that says “Forgive me”. The remains that Bond visited could be from Vesper Lynd, an agent he encounters in Le Chiffre’s casino in Casino Royale.

The last time he saw her, she betrayed Bond and let herself drown in the Grand Canal. But she left him a trail of clues to uncover the Quantum criminal organization. Yet, Vesper was one of the few ladies who understand and empathize Bond.

5 Seafaring Action Sequences

In a few glimpses of the preview, it is revealed that some of the action will be taking place on water, as seen from the ship firing ballistic missiles and the seaplane appearing on frame. Also included is a ship that Bond and Nomi infiltrated.

Adding to the fray is Safin’s lair that contains a submarine pen. Water-based lairs are nothing new on the James Bond pantheon, as seen from The Spy Who Loved Me with villain Karl Stromberg's hideout, Atlantis. So, this adds to the numerous Bond Easter eggs.

4 An Underwater Setup

Speaking of, it is also teased that there will be two submerged action sequences - the lake included - much in the same vein as the Grand Canal sequence in Casino Royale or the underwater scene from Thunderball.

Director Fukunaga really holds confidence on topping the spectacle from previous Craig-era Bond movies. While the setup is a no-brainer for a Bond outing, it will certainly hit home for him from the events of Casino Royale.

3 Bond and Nomi in Drones

As confirmed, the new “00” agent Nomi (Lashana Lynch) took Bond’s place for active missions in the agency. And it is speculated that she will present the new, innovative direction for the Bond franchise since she is someone to transform Bond on a pivotal level.

In a sequence that resembles Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Bond and Nomi jump out of a cargo plane via drones. But it also recalls that parachute scene in Die Another Day of Bond and Jinx sneaking into North Korea to sneak on a cargo plane.

2 Safin’s Plan and Lair

The villains under the Craig era of Bond films are interlinked to one another, all culminating to Ernst Blofeld as the mastermind of their devious plans. For Safin’s case, however, it will be a unique take, since his link to Bond is through Dr. Swann.

As revealed, Safin was once affiliated with SPECTRE as an assassin. But he since parted ways, crafting his own ecological domination plan by terminating millions. His plan is verified with the reveal of his ecologically-friendly lair that resembles Blofeld’s lair in You Only Live Twice.

1 Safin’s Connection to Dr. Madeleine Swann

But going to back to Safin’s link with Swann, the most important revelation is that both of them had a past that truly got “under Bond’s skin”, especially since Safin left his assassin mask to Swann and equated himself to Bond by body count.

It is not further indicated how close Safin and Swann were. But Bond took it personally, especially considering his emotional trauma regarding Vesper that mirrors Swann. Gladly, his similarities to Dr. No should provide hints at the stakes for James Bond.
