Superman & Lois Will Give Clark A New Suit | Screen Rant
Tyler Hoechlin's Superman will be getting a brand new super-suit when Superman & Lois premieres in 2021. The Arrowverse is expanding in the upcoming TV season with its latest spinoff series centering around Hoechlin's Man of Steel and Elizabeth Tulloch's Lois Lane. Ahead of Crisis on Infinite Earths, the ambitious 5-part event, The CW revealed that they were set to invest more into the iconic Super-couple with a spinoff show. Back in January, right before the second half of the crossover was going to air, The CW decided to give Superman & Lois an early series order which has never happened for an Arrowverse spinoff before.
Due to COVID-19, production on the pilot had to be halted as it was originally going to start filming in March as part of the pilot season. The CW has set Superman & Lois and the rest of the Arrowverse to premiere in January 2021. With TV and film studios getting new safety guidelines, production is slowly starting to become a reality for various projects, including the Arrowverse. The spinoff is also still supposedly going to be the second lead of the annual crossover with Batwoman serving as the first part of it. Although Arrowverse creator Greg Berlanti has stressed that it'll be smaller due to the pandemic. One big thing fans can look forward to with Superman & Lois is a change to Clark's wardrobe.
Superman & Lois took part in part 2 of DC FanDome today as the upcoming CW drama's leading stars Hoechlin, Tulloch, and showrunner Todd Helbing came together to promote the show. Moderated by DC Comics CCO Jim Lee, Helbing was asked by a fan whether or not the Man of Tomorrow will be getting an upgrade to his costume. While not revealing a new picture, the former The Flash showrunner confirmed that viewers can expect a "badass Superman suit" on the show, partially because of Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Helbing's reference to Crisis is an interesting one given that Oliver Queen's rebooting of the universe actually did some groundwork for the Superman series. Prior to the 5-hour saga, Lois and Clark were seen being the parents to baby Jon Kent. However, after Oliver's sacrifice, the history was changed and during the fifth hour, Clark discovered that instead of having a baby boy, he and Lois were now raising two teenage sons. They're none other than Jon and Jordan Kent, who will be played Jordan Elsass and Alexander Garfin respectively.
It'll be intriguing to see how Hoechlin's 2.0 suit will look and how much it will differ from the one he has been wearing ever since debuting on Supergirl in season 2. Whether or not they'll go old school by bringing back the red briefs remains to be seen. Production is set to happen this fall which hopefully means that a full costume reveal will be unveiled by The CW soon. While no specific premiere day has been set yet, Superman & Lois will be airing on Tuesdays at 9/8c on The CW right after The Flash.
