PH Covid cases up to 257K; 5,000 new cases recorded
CLOSE to 5,000 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) were recorded in the country on Saturday, the Department of Health (DoH) said.
The 4,935 individuals who tested positive for the disease bring the total number of infections to 257, 863.
Of the 257,683 cases, 66,455 are active, of which 97.4 percent are mild and asymptomatic and 2.7 percent are either severe or critical.
The National Capital Region (NCR) recorded the highest number of infections at 2,619, followed by Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Negros Occidental.
The 187,116 recoveries, which include 659 new survivors, is 72.6 percent of the overall count, the DoH said.
The death toll is at 4,292, including 186 new fatalities reported on Saturday.
NCR has the highest number of deaths at 100 from April to September. July recorded the most number of dead at 38 followed by August at 35.
Central Visayas recorded 36 deaths from May to September. Fatalities were reported in nine other regions, three from an undisclosed location and three more who were identified as returning overseas Filipinos.
The DoH said 2,848,985 people had been tested since the pandemic broke out in mid-March.
About 28.04 million individuals have been infected with Covid-19 worldwide, 906,092 of whom have died.
