2020’s Marvel’s Avengers has received a strong critical reception following its release, and many players are impressed by the game’s enthralling single-player story campaign as well as its varied multiplayer experience. Perhaps even more exciting is the fact that the game promises to continue adding new downloadable content for players to enjoy, including, most prominently, a handful of playable DLC characters such as Kate Bishop (Hawkeye) and Peter Parker (Spider-Man).

[Warning: Spoiler for Marvel's Avengers below]

In Marvel’s Avengers, the events following the tragic A-Day celebrations that led the Avengers to disband are explored. The game starts with a young Kamala Khan celebrating A-Day with her father after winning a fan-fiction contest. But when the Taskmaster launches an attack that leaves San Francisco in ruins, the Avengers disband, leading A.I.M. to take control of the city in the years following. The game then fast-forwards to when Kamala, now a young adult, is declared Inhuman. She escapes A.I.M. and heads to Utah to join the resistance while hoping to reunite the Avengers.

Marvel’s Avengers’ ending provides insight into who or what future downloadable content may include. The post-credits scene shows the Kree Sentry that Kamala defeated in the final boss battle open up and send a pod (or a beacon) into space. The origin or destination of the pod are unknown. Similarly, it’s unclear what’s in it or who sent it. But it seems to imply that something from space will soon visit Earth.

There has been speculation that the ending of Marvel’s Avengers could be insinuating that Captain Marvel will join as a playable DLC character, particularly since the game made so many references to her. But it’s possible that the ending is also setting up the entrance of other characters from the Marvel universe, namely the Guardians of the Galaxy. As their name suggests, the fictional superhero team protects outer space from harm, meaning Marvel’s Avengers ending could’ve been a direct hint that at their inclusion in future DLC

The Guardians of the Galaxy have helped the Avengers before various times, including in the Marvel movies. In Avengers: Infinity War, for instance, the Guardians assist Thor and the Avengers in taking on Thanos. In Avengers: Endgame, the remaining Guardians travel back in time to retrieve the Infinity Stones as well as bring back Thanos’ victims. Given how interconnected the Guardians of the Galaxy are with the Avengers, it would be easy enough to incorporate them into new missions and other downloadable content.

The developers have also confirmed they’re open to introducing even more Marvel characters to the game. During multiple interviews they have hinted that new and surprising characters would be dropping for Marvel’s Avengers, and given how popular the Guardians of the Galaxy films have been, it would only make sense to have them show up at some point. So, while nothing has been confirmed about the future of Marvel’s Avengers’ downloadable content, or whether the Guardians of the Galaxy may make an appearance, it sounds like fans of the game have a lot to look forward to going forward.
