It’s been a while since the Bears blew out an opponent, but they have a chance to do it Sunday.
The Bears jumped on the Giants with two scores in the first seven minutes Sunday and have a 17-0 lead at halftime.
The offense opened with a beautiful, 82-yard touchdown drive in which it converted all four of its third downs and Mitch Trubisky completed 4 of 4 passes for 62 yards. He connected with running back David Montgomery for a 28-yard touchdown pass on third-and-7 to take a 7-0 lead.
Trubisky has completed 13 of 18 passes for 159 yards with two touchdown passes for a 136.1 rating.
Both starting running backs left the game in the first half. Giants star Saquon Barkley suffered an apparent right knee injury and will not return. Montgomery went to the locker room with a neck injury after landing on his head in the second quarter.
Montgomery returned to the sideline in full uniform, indicating he likely will return in the second half.
The Bears followed Trubisky’s early touchdown pass with outside linebacker Robert Quinn delivering a strip-sack and Khalil Mack recovering it to give them the ball at the Giants’ 20.
Quinn, who signed a five-year, $70 million deal in the offseason, missed extensive practice time in the preseason and was out for the opener with an ankle injury. He now has 26 forced fumbles in 126 career games.
The Bears held the Giants to 22 yards on eight plays in the first quarter.
