Galactus Has His Own Version of Silver Surfers Board
Warning! Spoilers for Fantastic Four: Antithesis #2 below!
Silver Surfer's got one of the coolest accessories in the Marvel Universe, as his surfboard is key to his travels across the cosmos. Galactus, the being who gave Norrin Radd his powers and the iconic board just got his own upgrade, as the Devourer of Worlds just sported his own version of Silver Surfer's surfboard.
Norrin Radd was turned into the powerful silver being after he exchanged his life to save his planet Zenn-La from Galactus' hunger. He agreed to be the herald for the cosmic juggernaut and was given a silver surfboard and the Power Cosmic to help locate planets for the powerful villain to feed on. While there have been efforts to explain why he has a surfboard (it allows him to travel the cosmos free of constraint), Marvel essentially gave him the device because Jack Kirby was tired of drawing spaceships and it looked cool. Now, Galactus has his own surfboard.
Galactus usually traverses space in his massive Worldship. However, in Fantastic Four: Antithesis #2 by Mark Waid, Neal Adams, Mark Farmer, Laura Martin, and VC's Joe Caramagna, he can be seen on his own surfboard. In the story, Silver Surfer crashes on Earth and informs the Fantastic Four Galactus has been killed. He recounts the story of a villain emerging from the fabric of his universe and the Negative Zone. That villain, known as Antithesis, engaged in a massive battle in the stars with Galactus - where he can be seen on the surfboard.
Galactus' surfboard is not silver. Instead, it's transparent and more curved than that of his herald. Despite the ability to maneuver more freely with the board, Galactus, despite his immense power, proves to be no challenge to Antithesis. The cosmic monster overpowers Galactus and shreds his armor and turns him back into his original form - Galen of Taa. He takes the helpless, depowered Galactus and throws him into the Negative Zone. The fight shows that Galactus is no longer the most powerful being in the galaxy.
Even though Galactus got absolutely demolished by the poisonous Antithesis, it's still pretty cool to see him get his own surfboard. It allows the gigantic being to navigate with less constraint in the vast emptiness of space, especially against a powerful villain such as Antithesis. Like Silver Surfer, he looks pretty cool riding it as well as - although, Purple Surfer doesn't have the same ring to it name wise. It possible he modeled Norrin-Radd's board after his own. Regardless, it's fun to see Galactus get his own surfboard, even if it did him no help against a stronger enemy.
