World Of Warcraft: Shadowlands Level Squish Detailed In Pre-Patch Update
Information regarding the level squish in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has finally surfaced in a pre-patch update. Barebones details emerged during the expansion’s announcement, with Blizzard implementing a system that reduces characters’ maximum level to 60 and allows players to level in any of the game’s zones and previous expansions. For example, if someone creates a new character and wishes to level it in Cataclysm content, they can.
As Shadowlands’ October 27, 2020 release date approaches, fans have been ensuring they’re caught up on the game’s content and have completed their list of various tasks – such as unlocking flying in Battle for Azeroth zones. Moreover, the expansion’s system requirements revealed Shadowlands is the first expansion to officially require an SSD to run the game at its fullest potential. This development brings WoW into the next generation of gaming, as the primary gaming brands – PlayStation and Xbox – are launching with SSDs as one of their main components.
Breaking the relative silence on how the new leveling system works, Blizzard has detailed the Shadowlands level squish in a pre-patch update. One of the first changes concerns level boosts, with level 120 character boosts placing characters at level 50 and level 110 character boosts placing them at level 48. Blizzard also put together a conversion table for fans to peruse to figure out what level their characters will be after the expansion launches based on the level they were prior to the patch. Level 120 characters, for example, will be reduced to level 50, while level 104 and 105 characters will be dropped to level 42. Fans can view part of the conversion table below.
One of the most consistent complaints the WoW community has had in recent years is the time it takes to level a character from level one to max level. Even with heirlooms, the grind can feel grueling, almost never-ending. While the leveling process may be cathartic for some and endlessly fun for others, the process often seems arduous, repetitive, and unrewarding. This also doesn’t take into consideration how unsatisfying and mundane it feels to level different characters in the same zones repeatedly.
With Shadowlands condensing the level cap and permitting players to level their new characters in any expansion they choose is a great way to ensure fans can change up their gameplay. Experiencing different areas each time one levels a new character keeps the process fresh, cutting down on boredom and enhancing rewarding sensations. This doesn’t inherently mean the leveling process won’t feel meticulous or lengthy, but it’s a step in the right direction.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will be available on October 27, 2020.
