A Museum Survives in Crimea
Last week, Sergey Meniaylo, the governor of the city of Sevastopol, in Crimea, introduced the staff of the Chersonesus Archaeological Museum to the new director, Archpriest Sergey Khalyuta. The museum, which contains artifacts from the ancient Greek colony of Tauric Chersonesus and the Byzantine city that succeeded it, is an important academic center, with a staff that includes historians, archeologists, and numismatists. Among its holdings are the ruins of Tauric Chersonesus, now a national preserve, which in 2013 was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
