The Boys Season 2 Introduced A Better Spinoff Idea Than A Supes College

The Boys season 2 set up a better spinoff idea than one about superheroes in college. After a successful first season launch in 2019, Amazon Prime Video is in the midst of a wild second season of The Boys. The new season has dived deeper into The Boys, The Seven, and Vought's history to craft a superhero empire. More reveals are sure to come as the rest of the season unfolds, but also because a third season is on the way - and now a spinoff.

The popularity of The Boys continued to grow with the launch of season 2 and Amazon has now decided to move forward with expanding the universe. A Boys spinoff is officially in the works, set to focus on a college exclusively for Supes. The college will be run by Vought and see the young heroes compete to be stationed in big cities across America. However, the path to reach the next level of being a superhero will test their physical, moral, and sexual boundaries. It's an intriguing idea for a spinoff to The Boys, but season 2 already introduced a better idea.

A big part of the story in season 2 of The Boys has been about Vought's connection to the Nazis and how they created the first generation of Supes. A prequel series focusing on the creation of the superhero empire that is fully realized in The Boys would make for a great first spinoff. This spinoff show could provide more answers and details to Vought's origin, which The Boys might not have time to fully explore, and even bring back some characters the main show has already introduced. In that way, it could be a true spinoff of The Boys season 2, instead of potentially being a story that takes place in the same universe but might not stem from the main show's story.

The idea of a spinoff for The Boys set in World War II that details Vought's history wouldn't be the first time Amazon has tackled some alternate Nazi history either. They've already done The Man in the High Castle - set 15 years after WWII in an alternate history where the Nazis won - and Hunters - which is based on a true story but has made significant changes to history. With the success of both shows, Amazon is missing out on tackling similar subject matter but with a superhero twist.

Even though Amazon isn't currently making a The Boys spinoff set in WWII, the potential of such a series is quite exciting to consider. Thanks to the proposed setting and story, this prequel series could give Frederick Vought an actual role in The Boys universe and show him creating Compound V. This series could also be a place where Soldier Boy could return after he debuts in The Boys season 3, and there would be potential for other characters from the main show to appear as well.

One more reason why this WWII Vought origin spinoff could be worth exploring is that it is inherently different from The Boys. The proposed college spinoff will inevitably retread similar territory about the current state of Vought's thriving Supe business and the corporate machine behind them. But, this other idea could show how it all began and how Vought's approach changed over time. Amazon might not be ready to explore the origins of The Boys, but hopefully this idea is considered if they eventually want to do another spinoff.
