The Masked Singer Season 4: Who is Sun? | Screen Rant
The Masked Singer season 4 is full of shining performances, though none are quite as bright as Sun. Now fans are hard at work trying to match the clues and the voice to their favorite celebrity.
Sun came out strong with her rendition of Lizzo's hit song "Cuz I Love You". After hearing her powerful vocals, judges' predictions were understandably some very solid singers. Guesses included American Idol's Katherine McPhee, former Disney star Demi Lovato and even the legendary Madonna. Fan's guesses were similar, with many also voting for pop star Demi Lovato and others opting for another great female vocalist with Disney roots, Christina Aguilera. However, an unexpected name came up when fans of country music singer LeAnn Rimes were certain they heard her unique vocal tone in Sun's singing.
So who is Sun? The guesses are all very solid on this one, but the edge seems to go to LeAnn Rimes. There was a clear visual clue with the Disney logo. Many fit the Disney clue, which in and of itself isn't very helpful, as so many great singers have been connected to Disney in some way (either large or small) over the years. The specific mention of Frozen, as well as the depression, led many to Lovato. She has been open about her struggles over the years. So has Rimes, who has spoken publicly about dealing with depression. Several clues do fit Lovato but this video seems to make it more likely that Rimes is the one behind the mask:
Both women have discussed the heavy pressure of stardom. Both women are amazing performers. However, fans of LeAnn Rimes were quick to point to this video of her singing the exact same song that sounded remarkably close to the performance given by Sun. Lovato has an obvious Disney connection but so does Rimes, who had her own Disney special in 1997, LeAnn Rimes in Concert. It was filmed at Walt Disney World in Orlando. She also recorded a song for the global celebration of the 50th anniversary of Disneyland. The song she recorded was the official anthem song of the celebration, “Remember When", which later appeared on The Official Album of Disneyland’s 50th Anniversary. The song played for 18 months in the park as part of a fireworks special tribute.
The other clues seem to line up well with Rimes as well. The visuals showed hot air balloons and Rimes just happens to have performed at "2013 Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally" as well as the "2015 All Ohio Balloon Fest". The Frozen clue could be a reference to the tabloid splash made when news hit of the country star freezing Eddie Cibrian's sperm. Cibrian would later be her husband. More likely, it's a reference to her performance of “Light The Fire Within” at the 2002 Winter Olympics. This appearance also lines up nicely with Sun's clue given during the Sneak peek episode which said: "The Sun knows how to shine like a torch even in the freezing winter."
It's hard not to hear the similarities in the performances but the clues really are the icing on the cake. Every clue lines up well with Rimes, even some minor visuals like the balloons or the spa visuals, which fit well with photos of her transforming her home to fit her zen lifestyle. The only thing that is slightly off is the height, as Sun appeared to be close to host Nick Cannon's height. Even with heels, it would be stretch for the 5'5" musician. However, as fans have seen in the past when Barry Zito had to give a clue saying that he wasn't as tall as people might think, those costumes can be deceiving. The Sun is definitely not setting any time soon with vocals like we saw this week, so we'll just have to see how the future clues line up with country and pop star LeAnn Rimes.
