Peacock confirms the release date for Saved by the Bell in a teaser that features the original theme song. Saved by the Bell aired for four seasons on NBC, cementing itself as an iconic sitcom of the late 80's-the early '90s. The original series followed a group of friends and their principal at California's Bayside High School. The show was led and narrated by Mark-Paul Gosselaar's Zach Morris, while also starring Tiffani Thiessen, Dustin Diamond, Mario Lopez, Lark Voorhies, and Elizabeth Berkley. While the sitcom chronicled the wholesome adventures of the teenagers, the show also touched on more serious issues for some life-lessons moments, like drug use, driving under the influence, homelessness, and gender equality.
Earlier this year, Peacock released the trailer for the reboot, which serves as a "reimagining" of the original series and brings back some of its stars, including Lopez as AC Slater and Elizabeth Berkley as Jessie Spano. Gosselaar and Thiessen will reprise their roles as Zach and Kelly Morris in guest appearances. The show will also introduce a new generation of Bayside High students, who come from privileged and working-class families after Zach, who is now California's governor, closes several low-income high schools. The privileged students will get a much-needed reality check from the students transferring from low-income schools. Fans of the classic sitcom have eagerly been awaiting the reboot since Peacock first announced its development last year. Now NBCUniversal's streaming service has released a new teaser along with the show's release date and a familiar tune.
The new Saved by the Bell series is premiering November 25 on Peacock, according to the streamer's new teaser they released, which also features the original show's theme song. The clip shows a peacock walking around the empty halls of Bayside High before a school bell rings, and the theme song begins to play, followed by the premiere date announcement. Check out the teaser below.
All episodes of the season are set to drop at once, so fans will not have to wait weekly for a new episode as they would have with the original series. A "reimagining" of the original series, the new cast includes John Michael Higgens as Principal Toddman, Belmont Cameli as Jamie Spano, Josie Totah, as Lexi, Dexter Darden as Devante, Mitchell Hoog as Mac Morris, Alycia Pascual-Peña as Aisha, and Haskiri Velazquez as Daisy. Tracey Wigfield serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, along with executive producer Franco Bario and Peter Engel. The series is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
Saved by the Bell fans, both long-time and new, are likely even more eager for the new show now that a premiere date has been set. While reboots and revivals of beloved shows are often hit-or-miss, this series has some potential, in large part due to the addition of the original cast. Whether or not the original theme song will be part of the new show, its placement in the teaser is a nice touch of nostalgia that hopefully, the new series will also bring.
