Avatar: The Last Airbender: 5 Quotes That Prove Aang Is A Slytherin (& 5 That Disprove This)
Avatar: The Last Airbender is an unmistakably good show. It has dynamic and vibrant animation, fresh and funny jokes, an intriguing and interesting plot, and so many amazing characters that you want to inevitably root for.
But amongst all of them, Aang is by far one of the most likable and developed characters of all who undergoes a challenging journey both physically and mentally. His personality has been up for debate for some time which is why him being a Slytherin might not be such an outlandish claim.
10 Not Slytherin: "The Past Can Be A Great Teacher."
Aang's upbringing with the monks helped him to be mature for his age even if he prefers acting childishly most of the time. His sayings often bare a lot of wisdom.
His words about the past encourage everyone to learn from past mistakes and prevent them from happening again even though the Fire Nation murdered all of his people. This could show he is a Ravenclaw.
9 Slytherin: "When We Hit Our Lowest Point, We Are Open To The Greatest Change."
Aang is usually a very optimistic person though his optimism is often interwoven with his naivety and childishness. But even he can sometimes turn to his dark side.
Even despite that, he is able to find useful aspects of getting to one's lowest point. Such acceptance of one's flaws could be attributed to a Slytherin.
8 Not Slytherin: "Aang: This Is Exactly Why I Didn't Want You To Come. It's Too Dangerous! / Katara: And That's Exactly Why We're Here."
Aang has never been a fearful person. In fact, he's quite the contrary. He laughs at danger and finds away to get himself and his friends out of difficult situations.
But his protectiveness of those he loves sometimes makes him forget that those he loves can actually defend themselves too. That's why he's so defensive when they join him during one of the dangerous fights he is about to engage in. It seems like a Gryffindor move.
7 Slytherin: "I Was In The Avatar State... But I Was Outside My Body Watching Myself. It Was Scary. I Was Scary..."
Perhaps the only thing that Aang is truly afraid of is his own power as the Avatar. When he is in the Avatar State, he can't really control what he's doing which is why he is afraid that he will hurt someone innocent and bring a lot of destruction.
But once again, this acknowledgment of his dark side can show that he is on his way to becoming a good Slytherin.
6 Not Slytherin: "Will You Go Penguin Sledding With Me?"
When Aang and Sokka first encountered Aang, they didn't think anything grand of him. Of course, judging by his happy-go-lucky behavior, it's hard to tell that he is actually supposed to be the old and wise Avatar.
In fact, Aang's first request from Katara was to go penguin sledding with him... What a Hufflepuff move from his side.
5 Slytherin: "The Monks Used To Say That Revenge Is Like A Two-Headed Rat Viper. While You Watch Your Enemy Go Down, You're Being Poisoned Yourself."
Obviously, a lot of the wisdom that Aang has spoken was actually taught to him by the monks. In a way, his maturity in some situations comes from the fact that he was taught from a young age, prepared even, to become the Avatar.
But some of these teachings seem to be directly related to the Slytherin way of thinking. This could show that Aang belongs to this house.
4 Not Slytherin: "It's Easy To Do Nothing, It's Hard To Forgive."
Aang always promotes peace and believes that conflicts can be settled without fighting. But even he realizes that not everyone can be as kind and forgiving as he is.
That's exactly what happens to Katara when she finds the person who killed her mother. Aang urges her to forgive him which clearly shows he is a Hufflepuff.
3 Slytherin: "Sokka: That's Some Luck, You Knew Jin Wei And Wei Jin. / Aang: You Could Call It Luck, Or You Could Call It Lying. / Sokka: What? / Aang: I Made The Whole Thing Up. / Katara: You Did Not. That Is So Wrong. / Aang: Now, Where's That Custard Tart? I'm Starving!"
One of Avatar's jobs is to settle disagreements which is what Aang decides to do when the team has to cross a dangerous canyon accompanied by two bickering groups of people. The people come from two different villages that have been fighting for years because of a legend they have.
Aang decides to end their fighting by telling them he was there when the whole thing happened - and that the legend is completely wrong. After the people have made up, Aang confesses that he actually lied. What a Slytherin way to solve a problem!
2 Not Slytherin: "If I Try, I Fail. If I Don't Try, I'm Never Going To Get It."
Though Aang is eager to learn, it's not always easy for him to master the elements. Fire is particularly difficult for him though Earth was challenging too before that.
Nevertheless, he knows that he needs to try again and again before he manages to get it right. This mindset is quite characteristic of Ravenclaws as they are known for being hardworking.
1 Slytherin: "Aang: Jeong Jeong Tried To Tell Me That I Wasn't Ready, I Wouldn't Listen. I'm Never Going To Firebend Again. / Katara: You'll Have To, Eventually. / Aang: No, Never Again. / Katara: It's Okay, Aang. I'm Healed."
Aang might be just a harmless kid who always wants to treat people with kindness (and especially wants to protect his friends), but he is extremely powerful and can harm those around him.
And that's exactly what happens when Aang starts practicing Firebending. Though it's just an accident, Aang is terrified of what he had done to Katara and vows to never Firebend again. Obviously, he does bend fire later on, but this reaction could show that he tries to deny his Slytherin nature.
