Fight for rights: Ragpickers want their role defined in new rules

There is anxiety among waste pickers whether the draft waste management rules 2015 will include their services in the waste management process in cities. Till now, waste management was the state and the private contractors’ mandate but for the first time this draft mentions the role of waste or rag pickers as people engaged in “collection of reusable and recyclable solid waste.”
