State Duma reacted harshly to Sandu’s opinion about the “dishonest” debt for gas
The head of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Leonid Kalashnikov negatively reacted to the statement of the new leader of Moldova, Maia Sandu, about the “dishonest” debt of Chisinau for gas to Moscow.
Prior to this, the elected president said that Moldova does not intend to recognize the debt for the supply of Russian gas to Transnistria.
“If this is not her country (Transnistria – ed.), then calm down. The gas is not yours, the people are not yours, but bring the peacekeepers out. What do you want then? Make slaves of people? And plow them like slaves and sow”, – Kalashnikov said on the air of the National News Service.
In addition, the deputy recommended Sandu to meet with the residents of Transnistria and try to find a common language with them.
At the beginning of 2020, then-President of Moldova Igor Dodon announced that Chisinau would not pay off Transnistria’s gas debts, Tiraspol should deal with this.
Transnistria, 60% of whose residents are Russians and Ukrainians, sought to secede from Moldova even before the collapse of the Soviet Union. And in 1992, after the armed conflict, Transnistria actually became a territory outside the control of Chisinau.
