Rapper Travis Scott reportedly signs a deal with Sony that could allow him to design his own special edition PS5 or video game in the near future.
Travis Scott has recently become an unconventional brand ambassador for promoting companies like McDonalds and Epic Games, and a recent partnership with Sony could result in a special-edition Travis Scott PS5 along with a video game designed by Scott. Travis Scott is known for his go-big or go-home mentality which in turn results in his brand deals becoming larger than life.
Travis Scott and the mainstream media are seemingly inseparable. Not due to any scandals or chart-topping hits, but because of his recurring appearances promoting some of the world's most influential brands. At the start of 2020, Travis Scott was featured in one of the largest online events in video game history when a "live" concert was held in Fortnite. Leading up to the event, players were able to buy Travis Scott as a playable character, and during the event, a massive avatar of Scott performed some of the artist's hit singles. Months later, Travis Scott unveiled his partnership with McDonald's which consisted of his very own meal, a very expensive Travis Scott action figure, and some hilarious "Cactus Jack sent you" memes.
Shortly after the McDonald's partnership, Travis Scott posted a photo of the PS5 DualSense Controller on his Instagram with a caption leading to believe that he had his own PS5 console. It was later revealed that Travis Scott had joined Sony as a "strategic creative partner." What Sony intends to produce with the held of Travis Scott is a mystery, but a report from Forbes claims that the deal might entail a special-edition Travis Scott console and a video game designed by the world-famous rapper. Travis Scott's deal with Sony is expected to earn him $20 million or more. Forbes report that an unnamed source "says that it's a multiyear deal that could involve a cobranded console and perhaps even a game designed by Scott."
It's no mystery that Travis Scott is a gamer to some extent. From playing games with Ninja and Drake in 2018 to having his own Fortnite concert in 2020, Travis Scott is at least using video games to expand his relevance. While a Travis Scott PS5 could simply be branded by one of his logos or album arts, it would be interesting to see what type of game Scott would design. His creativity with album concepts and the creation of Astroworld could prove that Travis Scott has what it takes to make a truly unique experience.
Sadly, the source of the cobranded console and Travis Scott game isn't named in Forbes' article which makes these claims feel more like rumors. It wouldn't be too farfetched to expect a limited run of Travis Scott consoles, but a game designed by a musical artist seems a little less feasible. We all know how things turned out when Soulja Boy dabbled in the gaming industry, but if anyone can break the mold and make a PS5 game, it might as well be Travis Scott.
