Schitt's Creek: Everything The Characters Wanted In Season One That Came True By The Finale
Schitt's Creek has become known as one of the most wholesome, surprisingly lovely comedy shows to come out of Canada - charting the fall and rise of the Rose family. The Roses (Johnny, Moira, David, and Alexis) start out (very, very briefly) as uber-rich socialites. Johnny had built a video empire, Moira was an ex soap opera star, and David and Alexis were essentially the stereotypical kids of the super-rich, spending a lot of time spending a lot of money. But when that all comes crashing down, they end up in a tiny town, struggling to build a new life.
Obviously, the primary thing that they want at the start of the show is to get out of that town and back to a life where they had mansions, summer homes, and endless funds - but there was a lot more that they wanted in the first season, and after six seasons, they achieved a surprising number of their goals.
10 The Roses - To Have Money Again
By the end of the series, the Roses are far from as rich as they were in their pre-Creek days, but they have become financially independent, and they are well on the way to their old lifestyle (with a few changes). Moira is earning incredibly well thanks to a Sunrise Bay reboot, Johnny has just managed to get investors involved in his motel franchise, David is running a successful business with a very financially-savvy husband (who just bought them a house), and Alexis has a contract with a streaming service.
9 Johnny Rose - To Be Running A Business
It was clear in season one that Johnny actually really wants to be in charge of a business, and he does best when he has a project going on. But having started Rose Video so long ago, it seemed in the first season as though he might be too out of touch, out of ideas, and out of startup to make it happen. By the end, though, he was able to partner with Roland and Stevie to launch an entire national franchise of Rose Motels, and he was clearly thrilled to be back in business.
8 Moira Rose - To Be A Famous Actress
By the time they lost their fortune, Moira had already been out of the limelight for some time - having been kicked off Sunrise Bay, she failed to really build a strong career, and was struggling with terrible auditions (and wine commercials) but still attempting to make it as a star.
It seemed at times that this would be the family dream least likely to come true, but in the end, her passion for her craft elevated a terrible horror movie to a surprise hit. And this launched her back to stardom, and a Sunrise Bay reboot.
7 Johnny Rose - To Have A Closer Family
This wasn't as obvious a desire as many of the wishes of the Rose family in the first season, but it became clear over time (and over the Christmas episodes) that even when they were rich, Johnny wasn't happy with how distant the family was from each other. He hoped that they could become closer, and actually act like a real family... and of course, this is the heart of the show. At first, the Roses and their children were near-strangers, and didn't see each other for months on end. By the end, they were a close-knit and loving family.
6 Stevie Budd - To Get Out Of Her Boring Life
When fans first meet Stevie, she is bored, miserable, and jaded, and just wants to get out of Schitt's Creek. She and David bond over how much they hate the town, and she struggles with the idea of growing old there. After a short-lived stint as a flight attendant, and a phenomenal performance in Cabaret, Stevie finds a great balance - she will help run the motel franchise, and get to travel to do so, while maintaining a home in Schitt's Creek.
5 Alexis Rose - To Get Out Of Schitt's Creek
Alexis doesn't have many dreams at the start of the show, it's one of her defining features, in many ways. She just wants to hook up with cute guys and get out of the town and back to jet-setting. And while she doesn't end up in a relationship (which is actually a truly fitting ending for her, and not a sad thing), she does get out of Schitt's Creek. She isn't rescued by a rich man, though, she is able to head to New York and grow her new career.
4 David Rose - To Feel Like He Belongs
While some of the family dreams were stated outright (the desire to leave, for money, and to be an actress being the three biggest vocalized dreams), David doesn't talk much about what he wants. However, it becomes clear that one of the things that David wants most is to have true friends, and to belong.
At first, he holds himself apart from everyone, but in the end, he and Stevie become true best friends, and David realizes that he has found belonging - with his store, his friends, and his husband.
3 David Rose - To Fall In Love
David's other desire is to fall in love - and in the first season, it's clear that he hopes to find someone, but doesn't expect much from the queer scene in Schitt's Creek. Turns out, he underestimated the town, and has a few flings and relationships over the course of the show. And his final relationship, of course, turns out to be the love of his life. The series ends with David's wedding to Patrick, and it's an incredible day that perfectly rounds out an incredible relationship that David absolutely deserved.
2 Roland Schitt - To Be Taken Seriously
When Roland first meets the Roses, it's clear that he knows just how little they think of him and his town - and he's not happy about it. Roland may seem like a bumbling fool (and in many ways, that's accurate), but he has plenty of good parts, too. From the pilot episode on, Roland is trying to make Johnny and Moira respect him, and acknowledge him and his position... and by the finale, this wish comes true. He is in business with Johnny, and while the Roses still may look askance at some of the things Roland does, they do it with a lot more love, and even respect.
1 Everyone - To Get The Schitt's Creek Sign Changed
The Schitt's Creek sign is one of the biggest jokes in the first season, as Johnny attempts to get Roland to realize that the smiling couple on the town's welcome sign appear to be engaging in some very adult behavior! Roland refuses to recognize this, eventually adding a sign that makes it worse (she's his sister). From the start, the Roses want to get this sign changed, and the final scene reveals that they got their wish - as Roland painted Moira, Johnny, Alexis, and David onto the sign as a heartwarming goodbye gift. It's not exactly what he wanted at the start, but like most of their changes, it's exactly what they needed by the end.
