Harley Quinn's Kaley Cuoco Debunks Rumors of Feud With Margot Robbie
Kaley Cuoco continues to discredit the rumors that she is feuding with fellow Harley Quinn, Margot Robbie. Cuoco, best known for The Big Bang Theory, voices the animated version of DC’s favorite bad girl in Harley Quinn, which premiered in November 2019. Robbie, meanwhile, has played Harley in live-action since 2016, with turns in David Ayer's Suicide Squad and Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. Both iterations of the character have been well-received.
The Harley Quinn showrunners actually talked to Robbie about the show when it was first in development, but they obviously went in a different direction by casting Cuoco in the titular role. This eventually led to unsubstantiated reports that the two actresses were feuding with one another. Cuoco addressed the Harley Quinn rumors earlier this year, taking the time to shut down the speculation. Now, she's further elaborated on the issue, making it clear there's no disagreement between the Harley Quinn performers.
Cuoco addressed the feud rumors while chatting with her former 8 Simple Rules co-star David Spade for Interview. Cuoco recalls:
“When Birds of Prey came out, there were all these stories that me and Margot Robbie were feuding […] But I’ve never even met her. I love her. There was an article that came out that said we would not show up together at Comic-Con. We refused to be on the same stage together. Neither of us was even at Comic-Con, okay?”
Both Cuoco and Robbie are poised to continue playing Harley for the foreseeable future. In the former's case, Harley Quinn season 3 is coming to HBO Max, likely at the end of 2021. Given how successful the series has been thus far, it wouldn't be surprising if additional seasons were green lit down the line. As for Robbie, she is set to appear in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, which is scheduled to hit theaters in August 2021. Nothing else has been officially confirmed regarding Robbie's iteration of the character, but given Harley's immense popularity, Warner Bros. will want to keep her around. Since the two actresses will be playing Harley simultaneously on different mediums, it could be fun to see them crossover somehow down the line. Especially with Cuoco's comments, that would definitively squash any rumors of a feud.
It’s certainly not the first time that two actors have played the same role simultaneously, especially in the superhero world. For example, Robert Pattinson is currently filming The Batman as Bruce Wayne/Batman, while Ben Affleck is returning to the role for Andy Muschietti’s The Flash. Also, Mark Hamill has been voicing the Joker for various projects since 1992 and raved about Joaquin Phoenix’s performance as the character in Joker. With so much amazing content coming out of the franchise, there’s more than enough room for characters to be shared. The fact that Cuoco and Robbie have never even met only adds to the ridiculous nature of the Harley Quinn rumors. Hollywood loves a classic tale of female rivalry but, in this case, it’s purely a fantasy.
