Harry Kane believes he’s in the form of his life under Jose Mourinho – but won’t get too carried away with Tottenham’s position at the top of the Premier League.
Mourinho’s side head into the weekend’s fixtures top of the table. Having already beaten the likes of Manchester United, Man City and Arsenal, there’s a growing belief this could be Spurs’ year. The year (season) does end in with ‘1’ after all…
His partnership with Heung-min Son is paying dividends for Tottenham right now. They also have the likes of Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius to fall back on – something they’ve perhaps lacked before.
Kane though is refusing to take anything for granted. He does admit he’s enjoying his football under Mourinho after netting eight goals in 11 games.
“I’d probably say it’s the best form I’ve been in in my life, the best start to the season for sure,” he said.
“But there’s still a long way to go. I’ve had seasons when we’ve been top for a while but it’s a long hard race to be there at the end.
“We haven’t quite done it over the last few years but we’re just taking each game as it comes.
“Results, like we’ve got against Arsenal and obviously City a couple of weeks ago, will only help us, so we’ve just got to keep it going.”
For all Tottenham’s progress under Mauricio Pochettino, they only topped the Premier League table for six days. That was after they won their first two games of the 2014/15 season.
Many feel this might be Tottenham’s best chance at winning a Premier League title in years.
And while Kane reckons they have improved, he insists it is too early to talk about the title.
“There’s pressure in every game you play,” Kane said.
“Whether you’re playing the top six in a massive game. Or you’re playing one of the lower teams fighting relegation and you’re expected to win.”
Every game ‘tough’ for Kane
Kane insists that Tottenham will go into each game looking to win.
But he knows in the Premier League that every fixture represents a difficult challenge.
“In the Premier League now every game is a tough game,” Kane added. “We’ve played City, Chelsea, Arsenal and done well but we’ve got Palace away, Liverpool away. Leicester, Leeds, Wolves… every game is a tough game, so we can’t get too carried away.
“There’s still a long way to go. Of course, we have to believe in ourselves and our capabilities but we also know it can turn around pretty quick if you have a few bad results. We’ve just got to keep trying to win games.
“There’s two tough away games coming up – Palace and Liverpool. We’ve just got to keep trying to do what we’re doing and fight for it.”
