0

At least 630 children were killed and wounded during the battles in Afghanistan, in the first half of the year 2020, AIHRC reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, 225 children were killed and 405 others were wounded during the first six months of this year.

AIHRC said, the main cause of the children casualties are the rise in violence in the residential areas.

“630 children in Afghanistan were among the casualties—225 children killed and 405 more wounded. Of course, the figure will be much higher than this. According to the international conventions on human rights, those people who are not involved in the war, killing them is a war crime,” Tolonews Quoted Zabiullah Farhan, a spokesman to Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission.

The International Committee of the Red Cross reported last month, that Afghanistan remains the deadliest country for civilians, half of the civilian fatalities include Afghan women and children.

As civilian casualties been reduced in the first nine months of 2020, “ the harm is done to civilians still remains inordinate and shocking”, UNAMA announced in October 2020.

According to UNAMA Anti-Government Elements are mostly responsible for the majority of civilian casualties, about 58% of it is related to AGEs, compared to 2019 the amount of these casualties remained similar, although there was a 34% decrease, UNAMA reported.

Civilians casualties attributed to the Taliban dropped by 32%, though it was offset by an increased number of civilian losses due to target killing and IEDs.

Attacks by undetermined age increased, many incidents were caused by IEDs and target killings, UNAMA could not determine which anti-government group was responsible, and analysis corresponds with a decrease in the number of casualties for which Taliban and Daesh took responsibility.

Earlier BBC reported UN data showed at least 26,025 children were killed or maimed from 2005 to 2019.

Violence has been rising in Afghanistan amid stalled peace talks and US troop withdrawals.

Afghanistan remains in the 11 most dangerous nations list for children, according to Save the Children.
