The health secretary will give an update to Parliament this afternoon before holding a Downing Street press conference

What time is Matt Hancock’s tier announcement today?

The Health Secretary is due to give a speech to the Hosue of Commons today (December 14, 2020) at 3.30pm.

He will update the house on local Tier announcements and the restrictions that people living in specific areas will be placed under.

Following this, Matt Hancock will hold a televised Downing Street Press Conference this evening.

An exact time for the conference is not yet known.

What is the health secretary expected to announce?

Mr Hancock is expected to announce an update to Tier restrictions across the country.

The government had previously said that Tiers would be subject to a re-evaluation on Wednesday (December 16) but it has been brought forward by two days.

City Hall bosses are drawing up plans which could see London ordered into the tougher lockdown as early as tonight, or possibly tomorrow night, The Sun understands.

The emergency plans could mean pubs and restaurants are forced to shut with just a few hours notice.

And it would mean there will be no final chance for Londoners to hit pubs and restaurants before they are forced to close their doors – which is thought to have contributed to spikes in the past.

It comes after Boris Johnson led a “Covid O” Committee this morning to consider closing restaurants and pubs in the capital under the restrictions.

How can I watch the speech live?

Matt Hancock’s adress tothe Commons can be watched on all major channels, including Sky News and the BBC Parliament.

The press conference will be shown on the BBC this evening, live from Downing Street.

However, the conference can also be watched on the Government’s official YouTube account.
