Northwestern AD Jim Phillips Will Be The Next ACC Commissioner
Welcome to the ACC, Commish!
First things first: looks like the ACC is keenly interested in replacing Commissioner John Swofford with Northwestern AD Jim Philips. He was apparently a popular choice for the Big Ten job which instead went to Kevin Warren.
Pete Thamel writes that it has been approved by the ACC Board of Governors and so, assuming he accepts, he’ll be moving to Greensboro soon.
He has no ACC ties but the estimable David Teels says working at Northwestern prepares him well for our league.
He has to figure out how to close the revenue gap with the Big Ten and SEC and also how to help programs keep afloat during the current crisis.
That said, he seems like a good fit. We’ll have to do more research but what we see so far looks good.
One thing to keep in mind: former Duke player and assistant Chris Collins will have a new boss soon. That may or may not be a positive for him.
