Amazon Orders Boots Riley’s ‘I’m a Virgo’ Series Starring Jharrel Jerome
Amazon has ordered Boots Riley’s “I’m a Virgo” starring “When They See Us” alum Jharrel Jerome.
In the series, Jerome will play a 13-foot tall Black man in Oakland. Riley wrote the series and will direct. The series is described as an “absurdist, coming-of-age joyride.” Riley’s directorial debut, “Sorry to Bother You,” was similarly absurdist and was a critical smash when it debuted in 2018 at Sundance.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Amazon on this project,” said Riley. “This show will either have me lauded or banned, and as such, I have demanded payment up front.”

“I’m a Virgo” is a co-production between Amazon Studios and Media Res. Riley executive produces along with Michael Ellenberg through Media Res, Tze Chun (“Little America,” “Gotham,” “Gremlins”) and Jerome.
Riley is best known for his run as leader of The Coup, a radical funk/punk/hip-hop band.
