Spider-Man Remastered Can Now Be Purchased Separately On PS5

0

Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered on PlayStation 5 is now available to purchase as a standalone game for $40. Previously, there were only two ways to own the remaster. Players either had to purchase Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition or own a standard copy of Miles Morales and pay $20 for the remastered update. It counted as little more than a convoluted way of handling things, but at least another option has cropped up on the PlayStation Store.

Insomniac's announcement of Spider-Man Remastered came with myriad highs and lows. While drama about the new face model for Peter Parker represented a big upset for some, others were even more disappointed in the limited purchasing options and lack of save data transfer possibilities. Fortunately, Insomniac resolved the latter issue rather quickly, releasing a save transfer option from PS4 to PS5 that also unlocked all previously earned Trophies. Now yet another box on the Spider-Man Remastered wishlist can be ticked off.

The crew at Insomniac stealthily rolled out a standalone version of Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered on PS5 via the PlayStation Store. As such, users can now purchase the game for $40. There's reportedly a downside to this forward momentum, however. As spotted by Twisted Voxel, those who own the original game and its Season Pass on PS4 may hit a snag. The issue culminates in the PS5's Game Library reading the remastered purchase as the standard PS4 version. For now, then, buying the remaster as a standalone doesn't grant access to the new bells and whistles if you've previously purchased all of Spider-Man PS4's content. Here's to hoping this simply comes down to a web store error that soon receives a fix.

Odd purchasing mishap aside, this surprise release is welcome news. The $40 price tag seems rather high, though. Buying a standard copy of Miles Morales costs $50 while paying for Spider-Man Remastered as an add-on costs an additional $20. The Miles Morales Ultimate Edition, which features all of the above, boasts a $70 price tag. Simply put, it seems that buying the remaster through a Miles Morales purchase represents the better value.

Since the mid-November launch, both Miles Morales and Remastered have received major updates that enhance the respective experiences. Most notably, a recent patch unleashed a Performance RT mode for each of the two titles. Now players are able to enjoy the best of both worlds - running the games at 60fps, all while gawking at ray-traced visuals.
