The Office: 10 Times Kelly Said Everything We Were Thinking
Kelly Kapoor is one of the most honest characters on The Office. If people are offended by Michael Scott's honesty, Kelly Kapoor would have them shaking. Her rawness doesn't make her the hardest-working employee but she sure is one of the funniest workers at Dunder Mifflin.
On more than one occasion, Kelly has said what everyone else was thinking. She has no boundaries when it comes to conversation and lets her thoughts fly. Sure, this part of her personality is what got her moved to the annex with Toby, but viewers love her ruthless enthusiasm. After all, she needs something to entertain her all day at her paper supply job — she may as well entertain herself!
10 Guilty As Charged
Kelly is a woman who knows her strengths. As low as she can get when she's having troubles with Ryan, she's also one of the most shining examples of high self-esteem in the office.
Kelly knows what she's good at, what she's bad at, and what she can get away with. And one of those things is looking good while eating cupcakes. After all, who wouldn't want to look hot eating a cupcake? She knows exactly what to do when she needs attention (which is why she is the star of many memes), and that's either putting Ryan in his place or eating a cupcake seductively. Either way, get it, girl!
9 You Can't Call Someone Who Texted You!
Kelly isn't the youngest in the office but she's definitely cool enough to know what's considered current. From her style to her hair to her Halloween costumes, Kelly is always doing what the "cool kids" are doing.
In the episode "Special Projects," Kelly is shocked when Jim is considering calling Robert California after he had just texted him. Luckily for Jim, Kelly saved Jim from embarrassment by reminding him you can't just call someone after they texted you... Who calls people these days?
8 The Bridget Jones Fan In All Of Us
Kelly Kapoor loves pop culture. As someone in customer service who finds herself bored more often than not, Kelly loves researching the latest gossip and news in the celebrity world. A great example of this is when Jim came back to work in Scranton after moving to Stamford and the only news Kelly had for him was that both Angelina Jolie and Katie Holmes had children.
In one scene, Kelly proves her similarities to Bridget Jones from Bridget Jones' Diary when she imitated her in a British accent. It was all too familiar and relatable for fellow pop culture junkies.
7 A Lesson In Texting By Kelly Kapoor
Leave it to Kelly to teach Dunder Mifflin another lesson in texting.
When the office had to stay at work late one evening, it came out that Darryl was texting Val late at night. The problem is that Val had a boyfriend who didn't appreciate Darryl's text messages.
Darryl claimed they were innocent but Kelly thought otherwise after she heard them. She explained to everyone that Darryl adding "....." at the end of one of his messages proves that he was flirting with Val. Thanks to Kelly, everyone at Dunder Mifflin was brighter in text lingo.
6 Give The Woman What She Wants
When Pam became the office administrator, she tried getting everyone more devoted to their goals by creating a resolution board. Some resolutions came easier to some more than others but for Kelly, it was pretty simple: she wanted more attention.
After Meredith threatened to take up smoking again, Kelly said "What are you doing? I could be pregnant!". The camera then zooms to a talking head with Kelly where she assured everyone her resolution was to get more attention. And while lying about pregnancy isn't the best way to get attention, it seems to work for her.
5 Don't Mess With Kelly
As soon as Ryan got promoted and left Scranton, he dumped Kelly on the spot. Kelly was devastated and furious. She loathed Ryan but also wanted him. After all, it wasn't her choice to break up.
When Ryan came back to Scranton for a meeting, he called Kelly and asked if she had a question and she said one of the funniest lines in the series: "Yeah, I have a lot of questions. Number one: how dare you?" Ryan, of course, had no answers for Kelly but she has the bravery to say what everyone is afraid to say to their ex. Kelly never hid from Ryan; she confronted him and tried embarrassing him just like he embarrassed her.
4 Kelly Is Not Used To Honesty
Kelly was with Ryan for so long that she forgot what it was like to be with an honest man. When she started dating Darryl, she was almost too immature to be with him. Darryl was a hardworking single father who didn't have time for games. He liked Kelly and wanted to treat her the way she should have been treated all along.
However, Kelly is so used to the dramatics and lies that it's what she expects from all of her relationships. When Darryl didn't deliver theatrics, Kelly was thrown for a loop. She says what every person thinks when they enter a new relationship and are floored by the way they are treated.
3 Kelly Doesn't Know How To Sugar-Coat Things
It's obvious when Kelly is telling a white lie because she doesn't know how to be anything other than honest. When she and Pam were gearing up for a double date and she asks Pam what she was planning on wearing, Kelly's face drops to the floor when Pam tells her she's wearing her work clothes. There's no sugar-coating with Kelly and it's something that should be respected by viewers.
When Kelly interviews for the regional manager position, she tells Jim that she's also been the manager of her department for a number of years. But when Jim reminds her that her department is a one-person department, she reminds him that she's not easy to manage. Now that is something that's all too relatable for some viewers (but they'd probably leave it out of a job interview).
2 Aren't We All!
The workers of Dunder Mifflin could easily take a nap in the middle of the day if they wanted to. It's not like they're dealing with thrilling work; they're selling paper. But when Kelly's birthday rolled around, she was upset when the office forgot about it. No one threw her a birthday party and it practically ruined her week.
So, when Dwight and Jim came together to make up for it, part of her gift was a few minutes of nap time. The problem is, Kelly was so happy about a chance to nap that she was "too excited to sleep." It's the same emotion many of us have during the holidays, vacations, and birthdays.
1 Does Anyone Even Listen To Her Anymore?
When Kelly dished out a good idea in the middle of the workday, Jim commended her for it and decided to roll with it. But there was a small problem: she forgot what she said. "I can't control what I say to people. I spend the whole day talking," she confessed.
As a customer service representative, she has to speak to clients all day about an array of boring things. But even when Kelly isn't talking about work, she loves to dish about drama and things she's passionate about — so much so that she tunes herself out! It just makes the audience love Kelly all the more.
