Black Widow & 9 Other Superhero Movies To Look Forward To In 2021

0

Being the movie that will kick off phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the first MCU movie to be released in almost two years, it’s going to satisfy a big craving that millions of fans have, but it’s far from the only thing to look forward to.

After the year that was significantly lacking in superhero movies due to the studios’ fears of them underperforming, it only means that there’s a huge line-up of comic book goodness to come in the next 12 months. The releases include some long-awaited movies, some genre-defying sequels, and believe it or not, some films outside of the MCU and DCEU.

10 Black Widow

After being delayed for months and months, the wait for Black Widow’s release gets harder and harder as fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been conditioned to expect three MCU movies per year at this point. Being the movie that will kick off the next phase of the series, which has been confirmed to involve the multiverse, a slew of new villains, and even the Fantastic Four, Black Widow is surely hiding a ton of surprises.

9 Eternals

With the Eternals featuring many of the new characters confirmed for phase 4, there’s very little we know about the movie. Other than the fact that Kumail Nanjiani got absolutely shredded for the role and is one of the most insane body transformations we’ve seen from a Marvel actor yet, fans know nothing about Eternals. Besides Nanjiani, the movie has a fascinating roster of actors, including Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, and Selma Hayek.

8 Snake Eyes

It might be hard to believe, but there are actually superhero movies outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC universe, and Snake Eyes is one of the very few. The film is a spin-off of the G.I. Joe movie franchise and serves as the prequel to those movies, and it stars Henry Golding as the titular character. Paramount must know that they have a great movie waiting to be unleashed, as there’s already a sequel in development.

7 Morbius

Being one of the many superhero movies that should have been released by nowMorbius is an outlier as nobody can really pinpoint its place in any universe.

Being a villain of Spider-Man, it’s rumored that the movie takes place in the same world as Tom Hardy’s Venom, but the movie also features Michael Keaton as The Vulture, who is a part of the MCU. And given all the announcements that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire are reprising their roles in the upcoming third Spider-Man movie, whatever the hell is going on with Morbius, a bloodthirsty vampire being played by Jared Leto, is anyone’s guess.

6 Samaritan

Sylvester Stallone is quietly becoming a prominent figure in the world of superhero movies, as not only has the actor appeared in The Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, and not only is he going to feature in The Suicide Squad, but he is now going to be leading his own movie too. Very little is known about Samaritan, but it’s reported to be much darker than the average superhero outing and much more grounded in a similar vein to Glass.

5 Venom: Let There Be Carnage

The first Venom movie was a phenomenon, as it was derided by critics, but was loved by audiences, and it somehow managed to make over $800 million worldwide. Not only did the move spawn a ton of hilarious memes, but the post-credits scene eluded to the villain of the sequel, Carnage himself. Venom: Let There Be Carnage will see Tom Hardy butt-heads with Woody Harrelson, who plays Carnage, a psychotic serial killer.

4 Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings

Though Iron-Man 3 is a great Shane Black movie, it isn’t a great Marvel movie, as it was criticized for its use of The Mandarin. The Mandarin is one of the best villains in the Marvel comics, and Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings will rectify Iron-Man 3’s mistake, as it will feature the real Mandarin tearing the place up, which is one of the many reasons to be excited for Shang-Chi.

3 The Suicide Squad

After the negatively received Suicide Squad and the even worse received spin-off, Birds of Prey, DC smashed the glass in case of emergency and snapped up James Gunn, the director behind the Guardians movies, to helm The Suicide Squad.

Being one of almost 30 DC movies currently in development, Gunn has managed to do the impossible and get fans most excited for this semi-reboot/sequel by literally adding tens of villains and anti-heroes, including ones with names such as Polka-Dot Man, King Shark, and Weasel.

2 Black Adam

It feels like decades ago when it was first announced that Dwayne Johnson was cast as the titular character in Black Adam, as since then there’s still little else we know about the movie.

The Rock is as close to a real-life superhero as it gets, and it’s hard to believe that he hasn’t yet played one, but he’ll be entering the world of DC as Black Adam. However, though it was scheduled for a December 2021 release, the likelihood of that actually happening is questionable, as filming is getting delayed perpetually.

1 Spider-Man 3

With there being a lot of actors confirmed to be returning to the franchise, including the previous Spider-Man actors, villains from the other series, love interests, and even possibly Netflix’s DaredevilSpider-Man 3 is going to be a crazy, warped look at the spider-verse.

The constant flow of news from the sets are causing tons of conspiracy theories, and though the amount of stuff going on in the movie could be cause for concern, the third movie in the series is undoubtedly the most exciting superhero film to look forward to in 2021.
